Killian’s expression faltered a bit. “Well, no need to worry about that. Gordon handles the cleaning. All we need to do is make the coffee, iron his suits, wake him up…”
“Hold on!” Beatrice raised her hand to stop him, her smile fading.
“Wake him up? Aren’t secretaries supposed to focus on work stuff? We’re not responsible for his personal life, are we?”
Killian shifted uncomfortably. “Mr. Crowley takes afternoon naps, you know.”
Beatrice stared at him for a beat, then sighed, “Killian, we really need to have a talk about boundaries. You’re the assistant, and I’m the secretary. By all accounts, my job is to handle work–related matters, while personal things should be your responsibility. You’re Mr. Crowley’s right–hand man, not me. I can handle the coffee, sure, but waking him up? That’s… personal. I think you’re more suited for that job. Don’t you think?”
She shot him a knowing look. “I mean, you’re probably used to it by now.”
Killian winced. No way was he doing that. Waking up Damian was like poking a grumpy bear.

He’d ask to be woken in an hour, but when you tried, he’d either stay dead asleep or wake up in the worst mood possible.
If you let him sleep in? He’d snap at you for being useless. Too early or too late–nothing was ever right. And the worst part? He had absolutely no idea what a terror he was.
“Ah, come on, we don’t need to get into the details,” Killian said quickly, retreating toward the door. “We’re on the same team, right? Whoever’s free can deal with it. I’m just gonna… head
out.”
And with that, he practically bolted out of the office, leaving Beatrice to process what just happened.
She couldn’t help but feel like she was getting the short end of the stick.
The idea of handling Damian’s personal needs made her cringe.
She definitely needed to have a more serious conversation with Killian about roles, but not today.
Shaking her head, she closed the door behind her and sat down at her desk. She put her bag and personal items aside, then booted up her computer, setting her login password.
Five minutes later, Killian sent her the schedule for the day.
Beatrice skimmed through it quickly.
Then another message from Killian popped up.

Expecting it to be about materials needed for the 10:30 meeting, she opened it. Instead, she found… a detailed list of the CEO’s preferences.
She raised an eyebrow and clicked to read more.
It detailed everything about the CEO’s beverage preferences- from coffee to tea, down to the smallest detail.
The morning coffee had specific instructions about bean types and water temperature. His post–nap green tea required particular leaves. There were even notes about preparing ice water for late nights at the office.
She skimmed through it quickly, noticing there were more preferences listed below.
Beatrice bit her lip.
Is this really my job now?
Suddenly, she remembered–his first coffee had to be delivered before 9:30.
She glanced at the clock, and her stomach dropped. It was 9:48
a.m.!
Frantically flipping through the lists, she checked what type of coffee he needed first thing in the morning. Great–it had to be pour–over coffee.

She rushed to the break room in her heels, gathering beans, finding the kettle, grinding the coffee… Her arms were aching from hand–grinding the beans when she had to laugh at herself.
She hadn’t signed up for luxury at NobleQuest Group, but Killian made it feel like she was hired for nothing but grunt work.
Once she finally finished brewing the coffee, she rushed to Damian’s office, balancing the cup carefully in her hand.
She steadied her breath and knocked on the door.
“Come in.” His voice was calm, even icy.
Beatrice pushed the door open and stepped inside.
Damian was already absorbed in his work, his focus entirely on the documents in front of him.
She placed the coffee on his desk, right next to his hand, then stood still for a moment..
He glanced up at her for a split second, his eyes flicking to hers before he looked back down at his papers.
Beatrice said nothing, simply turning and walking out,
“Ms. Lawson.”
Damian’s voice suddenly cut through the air.

Beatrice turned back. “Yes, Mr. Crowley, is there something you
need?”
Damian simply pointed to his cheek.
Beatrice gave him a polite, professional smile, but inside, she
was completely confused.
What does that mean?
What’s wrong with his cheek?
Seeing her confusion, Damian just waved his hand, gesturing for her to come closer.
She took a step forward, unsure of what was happening.
Then, without warning, Damian stood up, his tall frame blocking her view, filling the space with his presence. The air seemed to shift around them, thick with his scent.
Before she could react, his hand reached out and gently touched her cheek.
His fingers skimmed across her skin, sending a shiver down her spine, like an electric jolt that ran from her face to her neck, leaving goosebumps in its wake.
“You…” She froze, her eyes wide in shock. She instinctively took a step back.
“You’ve got something on your face.”

His voice was calm, surprisingly soft, and he held up his finger, showing her a tiny speck of coffee grounds on his fingertip.
“Thanks… but maybe just tell me straight next time,” Beatrice managed.
Damian lounged back in his chair, fixing her with a level stare. “I was being subtle. You’re the one who didn’t catch on.”
Beatrice felt her cheeks burn with irritation. Subtle? Since when was vague gesturing helpful?
She turned on her heel and walked out of his office, heading straight for the bathroom. When she splashed her face with water, she realized just how red her cheeks were. It was as if she’d had a few drinks.
God, Damian could be so petty!
All she did was send one wrong text, and he acted like she’d played some huge prank on him. Did he really need to get back at her this many times to feel satisfied?
By the time the 10:30 meeting rolled around, Beatrice was there to take notes.
Killian had handled everything else, from notifying the departments to preparing the materials for the senior management.

Killian had been thoughtful, understanding that it was Beatrice’s first day and she wasn’t yet familiar with the meeting’s content. So, instead of throwing her into the deep end, he’d asked her to make coffee instead.
