Chapter 8 Slaves to Emotions

Beatrice tilted her head back, pushing down her emotions.

Nothing, just someShe turned to him, her reddened eyes soft with a smile, useless trash.

Gazing at the thick black smoke rising from the iron barrel, Desmond was wondering what had gotten into Beatrice.

You could’ve just thrown it away. Why burn it?He asked.

Just wanna make sure it’s gone for good,Beatrice explained.

Desmond frowned.

They stood silently in the yard until the last shred of sunlight was swallowed by darkness.

On Friday morning, Beatrice got the news that her car was ready from the repair shop.

On the way there, she didn’t think of the suit she was to return until she called Gordon.

When the call got through, Beatrice first informed Gordon that her car was repaired.

While sending the repair details and costs, she added, May I ask about your bossheight, weight, and measurements?

She asked so specifically because suits came in sels.

Just buying a similar jacket wouldn’t cut it; she needed matching pants, loo.

Beatrice figured since he was kind enough to lend her the suit, she should be grateful.

So, she decided to get an extra pair of suit pants.

Gordon looked at the message, a bit puzzled.

Beatrice waited for a while but got no reply.

Then she assumed Gordon didn’t know it either and needed some time to figure it out.

At the next intersection, Beatrice received a call from the finance manager, who wanted to verify some data with her.

Her wound was almost healed, so she made a Uturn and headed to the office.

As soon as she appeared in the project department, everyone came to check on her.

She hadn’t told her subordinates about her resignation yet. Guilt gripped her as she knew they would have to get along with the new boss after she left.

Beatrice visited the finance manager and then stayed in her

Chapter 8 Slaves to Emotions office, handling backlogged work.

She was busy until the afternoon when she found time to write her resignation letter. Beatrice planned to hand it in to Desmond before clocking out.

However, before the time came, she overheard the disgusting news in the break room.

Did you know? Madeline Fairfax, the fourth daughter of the Fairfax Group’s chairman, started working at our company today. Mr. Belmont even gave her the office next to his,One of the employees spilled the beans.

The Belmont and the Fairfax are going to tie the knot?Another employee chimed in.

But isn’t Ms. Lawson Mr. Belmont’s girlfriend? If it’s true, what about Ms. Lawson?

The group fell silent, exchanging glances before sighing.

They sipped their coffee, whispering about Madeline’s shamelessness, Beatrice’s pitiful situation, and Desmond’s heartlessness.

Beatrice stood outside, listening quietly.

In the end, she ended up going back to her office with an empty

cup.

Sitting in her chair and dazing for a bit, she picked up her

printed resignation letter, and headed upstairs.

Beatrice couldn’t wait to get it over with.

Yet, before she could approach Desmond’s office, Roland rushed over to stop her, looking very anxious.

Mr. Belmont is having a meeting. Please come over later.

With a nod, Beatrice pretended to leave.

And when Roland was off guard, she took a swift turn, bypassing him gracefully.

She grasped the door handle, twisted it, and pushed the door open hard.

Instantly, a scream echoed inside.

Madeline, wrapped only in a towel, was lying on Desmond’s back. The sudden intrusion startled her.

Meanwhile, Desmond’s smile froze.

At the sight, Beatrice was lost in thought.

Sometimes, she was troubled by her own stubbornness.

She had long made up her mindleaving Desmond was what was best for her. So, she should stay out of his business as it would only give her headaches.

Roland turned pale, covering his eyes, not daring to look inside.

He stuttered, Here, here’s the deal. Ms. Fairfax was sweating after moving some papers, so sheshe just took a shower. I was afraid you’d misunderstand, so II said
