Trash Husband, I'm the Top novel Chapter 186

The moment Aurora walked in, the smile vanished from Mrs. Quinn’s face. “You’re back?”

Eleanor lounged comfortably on the sofa, her tone airy. “Aurora, have you finally come to your senses? Are you here to talk some sense into Grandma?”

Without a word, Aurora strode forward, grabbed a fistful of Eleanor’s hair, and slapped her hard across the face. The sharp sound echoed through the room.

Mrs. Quinn snapped out of her shock and rushed to pull Aurora away. “Aurora, have you lost your mind?”

Aurora let go, standing over Eleanor with a cold, furious glare. “Eleanor, he’s just a child. For the sake of your petty grudges, you’d risk his life? You’re not even human.”

Eleanor cowered on the sofa, clutching her cheek, her expression twisted with hurt beneath her long hair. “What did I do now?”

She refused to admit anything.

Aurora let out a bitter, humorless laugh. “What did you do? Yesterday, you deliberately switched Daniel’s glass—he drank alcohol because of you. Need me to refresh your memory?”

Eleanor’s face paled.

Aurora lunged and slapped her again, several times in quick succession. “How can you be so cold to a child?”

Mrs. Quinn shrieked, shoving Aurora away and shouting, “You’d attack your own sister over some kid? You’re the heartless one here!”

Aurora turned to Mrs. Quinn, her face terrifyingly cold. “So what if he’s a child? Does that make it okay for you to torment him like this?”

A life was at stake. And Payne...

Aurora’s heart ached beyond words.

Here was Eleanor, basking in her parents’ affection, yet mocking those crushed by pain, even cutting off their last thread of hope.

Such cruelty.

Such coldness.

Just then, Mrs. Quinn’s phone rang. The screen showed it was Jordan’s assistant. Mrs. Quinn frowned and answered.

“Ma’am, something’s happened—Mr. Quinn has been taken away by the police.”

“What?”

“They say it’s for suspected kidnapping.”

...

Surely the old woman wouldn’t abandon her own son.

Mrs. Quinn scowled, disgusted by her husband’s incompetence, but she couldn’t just leave him to his fate.

Back in the car, Eleanor anxiously asked, “How’s Dad?”

Mrs. Quinn took her daughter’s hand, tears streaming down her face. “Eleanor, your father’s made a terrible mistake…”

Eleanor hadn’t expected Jordan not to know Aurora and Payne weren’t mother and son, let alone that he would actually try to kidnap the boy.

She gritted her teeth. “I’ll go see Dan.”

Eleanor was a favorite at Chambers Group and breezed straight into Daniel’s office. He wasn’t there. Stacks of paperwork covered his desk.

She tried to sit and wait but quickly grew restless, pacing back and forth. As she passed the desk, a stack of files slipped to the floor.

She hurried to gather them, but as she reached for the third folder, her hand froze.

In her grasp was a file—Daniel’s personal investigation into Aurora.
