Trash Husband, I'm the Top novel Chapter 294

The lab results were in: the lollipop really was poisoned.

Nora dug her nails deep into her palm, her jaw clenched with fury. “Call the police. Right now.”

She was determined—whoever hurt Payne would pay.

Fortunately, the poison on the lollipop hadn’t been potent. Payne was out of danger.

Nora kept vigil by his bedside through most of the night.

She’d just gotten up to stretch when a shrill voice rang out in the hallway. “Where’s Nora? Get out here!”

Mrs. Chambers. Of course.

Nora didn’t want Payne disturbed, so she stepped outside.

Her face was expressionless, eyes icy cold as she stared at Mrs. Chambers.

Without warning, Mrs. Chambers slapped her hard across the face. “How dare you accuse Dan like that?”

Louis quickly stepped between them, his voice cold. “Whether it’s an accusation or the truth—the police will get to the bottom of it.”

Mrs. Chambers jabbed a finger at Nora, her words coming fast and furious. “Dan donated bone marrow to save Payne’s life. Why would he ever hurt him? I see what this is. You’ve found someone else, and now you trample all over Dan’s feelings.”

Just hours ago, the police had taken Daniel away for questioning.

His lawyer had rushed down, but the damage was done—word had already gotten out. For Mrs. Chambers, whose pride was everything, this was nothing short of humiliation.

Nora had no interest in a public showdown. She turned to go back inside. “The police will investigate. The truth will come out.”

Mrs. Chambers was practically shaking with rage. “You heartless woman. Your son deserves whatever happens to him.”

Daniel was her pride and joy, her one hope in life. Now Nora had sent him to the police.

She was beside herself.

Nora spun around, her eyes fixed on Mrs. Chambers like sharpened blades. “What did you just say?”

Mrs. Chambers spat out more venom. “I said Payne is nothing but a curse. He should’ve died. Dan never should’ve saved him. Ungrateful brat—he’s better off gone.”

Nora was trembling with anger. She marched up to Mrs. Chambers, her gaze cold and merciless.

She’d been married to Daniel for three years. She knew he wasn’t that kind of man.

It was just… after what Mrs. Chambers had said, she’d lashed out, too.

“I’ll look into it,” Louis promised, giving her shoulder a reassuring pat.

Whoever was behind this—no matter who it was—had to be found.

At the police station, Daniel sat in silence as Mrs. Chambers played back her recording. His eyes were lowered, his face dark and tense.

“I told you she was an ungrateful snake, but you wouldn’t listen,” Mrs. Chambers fumed. “Now look at what she’s done to you, all for the sake of that bastard child!”

The more she spoke, the more furious she became. She still blamed her son for refusing to go on all those arranged dates.

Those people never cared about him anyway.

Daniel pressed his lips together, a bitter hint of resignation in his eyes.

In Nora’s mind, he was already the villain—the kind of man who’d do anything to get his way.
