Mrs. Chambers had finally stopped standing in the way of Daniel and Nora’s relationship.
She genuinely wanted to welcome Nora into the family, which is why she was determined to mold her into a proper Mrs. Chambers.
After all, once the old man passed on and Daniel took over the entire Chambers estate, Nora would become the new lady of the house. And with that title came a constant stream of social events and obligations.
If Nora didn’t start learning now, it would be embarrassing later.
“That little studio of hers barely makes any real money,” Mrs. Chambers grumbled.
Daniel rubbed his temples. “I know what she’s doing. Please, just let it be.”
Mrs. Chambers was clearly displeased but held her tongue.
After Daniel’s hospitalization, Nora treated her visits like clocking in—she showed up briefly each day, then left. She never once asked about his treatment or recovery.
Most of her time was spent at her studio, especially now that the production line was up and running.
Two weeks passed. When Nora finally stepped out of her studio one evening, it was nearly nine o’clock and the autumn air had turned biting cold.
She tugged her coat tighter and walked toward her car.
The moment she shut the door, something cold pressed hard against her neck.
“Ms. Cooper, you’re coming with us,” a man’s voice ordered.
Nora’s fingers tightened on the steering wheel. “Who are you?”
The man’s voice was deep, emotionless, as he rattled off an address.
Nora’s mind raced for a way out.
A sudden jab of pain at her neck—he pressed the knife closer, a silent threat.
She had no choice but to start the car and drive.
An hour later, she pulled up in front of an abandoned villa.
“Out,” the man commanded.
Nora guessed he was right behind her. The moment she stepped out, she tried to run, but several men in black appeared from the shadows, blocking her path.
Rough hands dragged her into a pitch-black room.
No one spoke. No one explained why she’d been brought there.
