Trash Husband, I'm the Top novel Chapter 47

Fiona’s heart hammered in her chest—this was the Chambers family heir, after all. Even as a son-in-law, he wasn’t someone you could lay a hand on lightly.

“What were you thinking, getting in the way like that?” she scolded.

Aurora looked up at Daniel in stunned disbelief. She never expected him to step in and take the blow for her. From the sound of it, Jordan had put his full strength into that slap.

Her eyes shimmered with tears, her lips trembling as she tried and failed to form a single coherent word.

Jordan snapped out of his shock and quickly ordered the driver to take Daniel to the hospital.

Daniel leaned against Aurora, clearly dizzy.

At the hospital, Daniel was rushed off for tests.

Aurora sat outside the examination room, eyes blank, her emotions tangled in knots. Daniel had always been the one to care about Eleanor—shouldn’t he be glad Aurora got hit instead? So why had he stepped in?

“Aurora.” Jordan’s voice, for once, softened as he called her name. “I need to talk to you.”

She stared back at him coldly.

Jordan bristled at her attitude but forced himself to stay calm. “Dan only got hurt because he was trying to protect you. When the Chambers family asks about this, you know what you have to say, right?”

Daniel’s injury was serious—normally, even a scratch would prompt anxious questions, let alone a blow to the back of the head. The Chambers family would definitely want answers.

Jordan’s meaning was crystal clear: he wanted Aurora to take the fall.

A chill ran down her spine. “You mean, you want me to lie to the Chambers and say I hit him?”

Jordan’s tone hardened. “He was only hurt because he was protecting you.”

Aurora’s heart sank. What kind of father made his daughter bear the consequences of his own mistakes? If he hadn’t been so unfair, none of this would have happened.

When she stayed silent, Jordan’s anger flared. His tone grew icy. “Aurora, you and Dan are married. The Chambers family will let it go for Dan’s sake, but if they find out it was me, they won’t be so forgiving. You don’t want your grandmother, at her age, worrying herself sick, do you?”

“If you want me to do what you ask, then just stay quiet,” Aurora spat, her revulsion plain.

Jordan fumed but could only swallow his rage.

After a long wait, a doctor finally emerged and told Aurora that someone from the Chambers family had arrived. Daniel had already been moved to a private room. The tests showed nothing serious, but he’d need to stay overnight for observation.

Mrs. Chambers herself had arrived and requested they come to the doctor’s office.

Aurora and Jordan followed her in.

Aurora’s relationship with her mother-in-law had always been distant—if it weren’t, Mrs. Chambers would never have ignored her after the miscarriage.

She greeted her coolly: “Mother.”

Mrs. Chambers, elegant and impeccably made up, fixed Aurora with a sharp look. “Is this how you take care of your husband? How could you let Dan get injured in such a critical way?”
