Twin Cupids at Work: Daddy, Come Home! novel Chapter 147

When Madeline spoke up, Helene’s face turned a furious shade of red. The crowd nearby started buzzing, whispering to each other. They had felt bad for Helene at first, but after hearing what she just said, everyone thought she was completely shameless.

She was the one who ran across the road and got hit by a car, yet somehow she was blaming the person who tried to help her. She’d just insulted Madeline, and now she wanted her to bandage her wounds too? The nerve.

Someone in the crowd muttered, “She’s a grown woman. Doesn’t she know you can’t just walk into traffic? Does she think the whole road belongs to her?”

Another person chimed in, “People like her are just dangerous. I bet she’ll try to scam someone for money next.”

Someone else whispered, “Maybe they’re just here to cause trouble on purpose.”

“Let’s stay away. People like that are scary…”

Lucy had already fainted, so all the attention and criticism landed on Helene. She was shaking with anger, desperate to get away from the crowd that was pointing and judging her, but her leg had a long, bleeding cut and her knee was scraped raw. Every move hurt like crazy.

She thought about crawling over to Lucy and crying in her arms to win some sympathy, but Madeline’s voice stopped her. “You shouldn’t move someone who’s just been in an accident unless you’re a doctor. Are you trying to make things worse?”

Helene froze, her hand halfway outstretched. She glared hatefully at Madeline, but there was nothing else she could do. All she could manage was to sob pitifully.

Luckily, the hospital was close and Madeline had called for help right away, so the ambulance came quickly. As the paramedics loaded Lucy and Helene onto stretchers, one of them looked at Madeline and noticed the blood on her clothes. “Are you hurt too?”

“No, it’s not my blood,” Madeline replied.

“Do you know these two?”
