The soft glow from the lamp highlighted the man’s impossibly handsome features. He frowned, his cool expression edged with a kind of dangerous sharpness that made Madeline’s heart skip. When Julian saw it was her, some of that tension faded from his face.
Madeline started to get up, but his hand clamped around her wrist, holding her in place. With barely any effort, he tugged her forward so she stumbled right into his arms. Julian’s grip slid easily around her waist, pulling her tight against his chest.
Madeline’s cheek pressed against his firm chest. She tried to pull away, but he didn’t loosen his hold. His voice was low and deep. “What are you doing?”
She glanced down at the awkward way he was holding her. Honestly, maybe she should have just let him freeze.
“I brought you a blanket. I thought you’d be cold. Let me go.”
Julian looked her straight in the eye, then glanced at the blanket lying on the floor. His eyebrow quirked up. “So, you actually care about me?”
“Marian does, not me. Let go, you old creep.”
Julian almost let her go, but then he caught her glare and decided to hold on tighter. “Old creep? You always have a new nickname for me.”
Crazy, pervert, crook, jerk. And now, old creep. Julian looked at her angry eyes, and for some reason, it made him want to laugh.
Madeline kept struggling, her annoyance obvious. “I should have just let you freeze.”
Julian didn’t seem to care. Instead, he shifted and pulled Madeline down to lie on the sofa with him. He wrapped his arms around her like she was a pillow, dragging the blanket over both of them. “Don’t move.”
Don’t move? Madeline kicked the blanket off. “You’re the one grabbing me, and now you tell me not to move? Are you letting go or not? If not, I’m calling the cops.”
Julian just held her tighter. “Go ahead. We’re a married couple. I’d love to see what the police say about this.”
Madeline gritted her teeth. If Marian had brought the blanket, would Julian have pulled her into his arms like this? Marian would probably smack him with a shovel first, then call the police and have him hauled away.
“Sleep with me.”
