Helene’s mind was all over the place. She could barely focus on anything else.
Bill glanced at her, concern in his voice. “What’s going on? Why do you look so stressed again?”
She let out a sigh. “It’s that perfume company, Scent Trace. Their owner is a total enigma, same with their perfumer. I still have no idea who’s been keeping us under so much pressure.”
“Scent Trace? Never even heard of them,” Courtney scoffed, not bothering to hide her disdain.
Bill, though, didn’t look so sure. The perfume division had always lagged behind the rest of the company, and he’d actually heard Scent Trace mentioned a few times. Honestly, for them to get this far in just a few years was pretty impressive.
“I heard they’re trying to get into Grayson Enterprises’ mall too.”
“Yeah, and they even tried to steal our brand ambassador. Too bad I signed her first,” Helene said, a hint of pride in her voice.
Courtney rolled her eyes, smirking. “Some little company really thinks they can compete with us? That’s so ridiculous.”
Bill shook his head. “Don’t underestimate them. I’m actually curious about this owner. One of my business partners brought them up the other day. I wouldn’t mind meeting them.”
Helene perked up, hope flickering in her eyes. “Dad, do you have an idea?”
“They’ve got a meeting with our partner in two days. If you tag along, you’ll get to meet the owner.”
Helene pressed her lips together, doubtful. “I don’t know… The owner probably won’t show up for something like this.”
“Leave it to me,” Bill said, sounding confident. “If I say you’ll meet them, you will. Just focus on taking care of yourself, alright?”
Helene didn’t hesitate. She nodded. “Okay, Dad.”
…
Madeline sat quietly in the passenger seat of Casey’s car, barely making a sound. Casey drove with one hand, throwing her a sideways glance. “You’re awfully quiet. What’s up?”
She blinked, snapping out of her thoughts, and turned to look at him. “It’s nothing. I just… How did you know what happened to me last night?”
He shrugged. “Just a feeling.”
