Twin Cupids at Work: Daddy, Come Home! novel Chapter 189

Madeline could see the mix of hope and fear in Noah’s eyes, and it made her heart ache even more for him. Noah was nothing like Oliver. While Oliver was bright, outgoing, and could chat with anyone, Noah had grown up in the Grayson family where everyone called him names, bullied him, and treated him like he didn’t belong. Five years of that would leave anyone scared, insecure, and always on edge.

Madeline couldn’t help but blame herself. If only she had known about Noah sooner, maybe they wouldn’t have had to go through all this pain. She nodded, her voice steady. “Of course. From now on, you can live with Mommy. Always.”

Noah’s face stayed calm, but his eyes shone with happiness as he wrapped his arms around her. “Thank you, Mommy.”

Hearing that, Madeline’s tears finally spilled over. Having her own child live with her should be the most natural thing in the world, and yet he was thanking her, as if she was doing him some huge favor. Her heart twisted again. She held him tighter. “You don’t have to thank me, sweetheart. This is exactly how it should be.”

Back at the Grayson estate, Julian’s mood was ruined all day after what happened that morning. Even the staff moved around like ghosts, cleaning as quietly as possible, scared to make a single noise that might set him off.

Miles had been running around nonstop. Julian had asked him to find someone named Oliver, but with so many people sharing that name, it was almost impossible. Miles checked every Oliver he could find, but none of them had any link to Madeline.

When Miles finally reported back, Julian rubbed his forehead, exhaustion clouding his eyes. Every man around Madeline seemed to be a mystery. The headache just wouldn’t go away.

That’s when the front door opened. Oliver bounced in, humming to himself, kicked off his shoes, tossed his backpack to the side, and hugged his laptop on his way to his room. Julian watched the whole thing, his eyes narrowing. Ever since Noah had been spending more time with Madeline, his personality had totally changed. He was way too energetic now.

“Noah!” Julian’s voice came out low and serious.

Oliver jumped, freezing on the stairs, and peeked into the living room. He hadn’t expected Julian to be home at this hour. Uh-oh.

Julian checked the time, his expression turning even darker. “Come here.”
