A flicker of panic raced through Madeline’s eyes.
“I only have one child. He’s with you.”
Julian’s lips curled into a quiet, almost mocking smile. “Is that so?” His eyes grew cold, the chill in them making Madeline’s heart squeeze with fear.
“But he’s not my child, is he? Madeline, why were you so stupid back then? Why did you drink what Helene gave you? Why did you go into another man’s room? Why did you have another man’s child? Why isn’t Noah my son?”
Madeline could only manage a bitter smile. If only he knew… Noah is yours.
Julian kept staring at her. Then, suddenly, he smirked. “Doesn’t matter. You can give me a child that’s actually ours.”
Madeline’s heart skipped a beat. The way Julian said it, he wasn’t joking.
But all she could see in her mind was the memory of him holding Helene, and now he had the nerve to demand she have his baby.
She let out a sarcastic laugh. Was this his thing? One woman in his arms, another at his side—did he just love collecting wives and mistresses?
She looked up at him, her voice steady. “So? Helene can’t give you a child?”
Julian’s brow tightened.
“If you want a child so badly, go to Helene. She’s your fiancée. Or just pick someone else. With your status, you’ll find plenty of women willing to have your child. But me? I’m not interested, Julian.”
He had forced the abortion pills on her all those years ago. Whether he’d meant to punish her or truly wanted to destroy her baby, he’d done it. Madeline refused to let herself go through anything like that again. The pain and despair from that night still haunted her.
Julian’s whole body went rigid.
He stared at her, his eyes dark and sharp, cold anger simmering just beneath the surface. “What did you say? Say it again.”
Madeline clenched her fists, refusing to back down. She met his gaze head-on. “I said I’m not having your child. If you want a baby, go to Helene or find someone else who’s willing to.”
“So you’d have a child with someone else, just not with me?”
