Julian didn’t even look at Helene. He just walked away, leaving her standing there like she didn’t exist.
He had just gotten off the phone with Miles. Madeline had left the hotel about ten minutes ago, and her location had vanished right after. Her phone was probably dead.
A moment later, a security video from the hotel popped up on Julian’s phone. He watched, and his heart twisted in his chest.
Madeline had left the hotel with Casey.
Helene stared after Julian as he walked away, completely frozen. She couldn’t tell if he trusted Madeline too much, or if he didn’t trust her at all. But honestly, it didn’t matter.
Julian didn’t need to see anything with his own eyes. She had already asked Raine to record a video. Helene was sure that, once he saw everything, it would hit him even harder.
That was enough.
“Someone did this to me. Someone set me up. I didn’t want this. It was Madeline. Madeline set me up…” The voice, hoarse and broken from crying, echoed in the room. Helene felt herself turning to stone, unable to move.
After what felt like forever, she finally looked down. Raine was standing there, her clothes torn and hanging off her in shreds.
Helene’s breath caught in her throat.
All the hope drained from her eyes. She stared, wide-eyed, and stumbled back a step. “Raine? Why is it you?”
Raine’s hair was a mess, her face ghostly pale. Red marks covered her exposed skin. Anyone could see what had happened.
Raine clung to Helene’s clothes, desperate. “Madeline did this. She did this to me. How could this happen? Why did this happen?”
“Madeline! She set me up! You have to go get her. Arrest her, now!” Raine was out of her mind, pulling at Helene, then grabbing at the police beside her.
“Go! Go get her! She did this! Why aren’t you going?” Raine’s screams were raw and frantic.
The four guys who were supposed to go after Madeline were dragged out, still in a mess.
Raine lost it. She lunged at them, kicking and punching. “You bastards! I’ll kill you, I swear I’ll kill you!”
She couldn’t accept what had happened to her. The police even showed up, charging them with solicitation.
Raine’s legs gave out. She hit the ground, shaking, feeling like she was losing her mind.
Helene was shaking all over, furious.
