Twin Cupids at Work: Daddy, Come Home! novel Chapter 50

Madeline finally allowed herself to breathe when she saw him sleeping. That had been way more stressful than she expected.

She tucked her needle kit away, glanced at her watch, and frowned. Almost an hour had passed, but Julian’s son still hadn’t come home. Madeline felt her nerves tighten. She was dying to meet the kid, even just for a minute.

She could wait. The boy would have to come home from school eventually.

She moved closer to Julian, planning to start removing the needles from his scalp. Before she could begin, Helene burst in from outside, looking as polished and gorgeous as ever, her face lighting up in a bright smile—until she spotted Madeline.

“Julian…” Helene’s smile froze. Her voice shot up, sharp and accusing. “Madeline, what are you doing here?”

Helene’s eyes darted to Julian, laid out on the sofa with needles in his head. She stormed over and shoved Madeline aside. “What did you do? Are you trying to kill Julian?”

Madeline had managed to take out two needles when Helene’s push sent her stumbling. Her leg slammed into the coffee table. The pain made her gasp.

“Julian! Julian!” Helene called out, panic creeping into her voice when he didn’t wake up. She looked ready to have a meltdown, convinced Madeline had done something terrible.

Helene lunged for the needles, about to yank them out. Madeline rushed forward to stop her, ignoring the pain in her leg. “Helene, are you insane? You’re going to hurt him if you do that!”

Helene’s face twisted with anger, like she’d just caught Madeline in the act. She grabbed Madeline’s hand which was still holding a needle. “You’re the one trying to hurt him. I saw you with my own eyes that you sticked needles in his head. You're done, Madeline. How did you get in here, anyway? Someone, get in here and grab her. She’s hurt Julian. If anything happens to him, you’ll pay for it.”
