Twin Cupids at Work: Daddy, Come Home! novel Chapter 70

Seriously? Of all days and all places in this massive city, they had to show up here.

Trying to keep calm, Brenda grabbed a jacket from the rack and draped it over herself and the little guy, hoping no one would notice them.

There was no way Julian could see the child. That just couldn’t happen.

Brenda glanced around the store and then looked down. To her surprise, the kid in her arms was trembling even more than she was.

She bent closer and whispered, “Oliver, when I say run, you run outside, okay? Find somewhere to hide. Your mom and I will come get you soon.”

Noah nodded, eyes wide. He understood exactly what was at stake. Dad couldn’t see him.

Brenda watched the others carefully. They weren’t heading over, and no one was looking their way. She loosened her grip on Noah and whispered, “Run. Now.”

Noah crouched low, weaving through the racks, then dashed out the door.

Julian frowned, catching a glimpse of someone darting out of the corner of his eye.

He was still trying to figure out what he’d seen when the fitting room door opened.

Madeline stepped out, wearing the dress.

It was a white dress with a V-neck, crisp lines, and a perfect fit that made her look effortlessly elegant.

Madeline’s skin was already perfect, and the dress made her seem to glow under the store’s bright lights.

Her dark curls fell softly over her shoulders, and the light makeup brought out her stunning features. She looked almost unreal.

Julian’s eyebrows shot up in surprise.

Helene and Lucy stared, dumbstruck. That was the exact dress they’d been about to ask for.

“Wow, you look amazing! I knew that dress would be perfect on you,” one of the sales associates blurted out, practically glowing with excitement.

“It’s gorgeous, honestly. Even better than on the mannequin,” another chimed in.

“This dress looks like it was made just for you, ma’am. You’re stunning,” said a third.
