Madeline looked down, her eyes cold as she met her ex-mother-in-law’s gaze. “If you want to talk about what really happened, let’s do it right now. Let’s go through the security footage and take our time.”
Helene stiffened at Madeline’s words. She could feel Julian’s icy stare and her heart skipped a beat. She knew nothing good would come from bringing up that accident, so she forced a smile and tried to brush it off.
“It’s all water under the bridge. Let’s not dwell on it. I don’t blame Ms. Monroe.”
Lucy let out a dramatic sigh. “You’re just too nice, Helene. That’s why people walk all over you.”
Helene managed a bitter smile.
Lucy’s eyes flicked over Madeline, and her expression grew even colder. “Madeline, you really are something. Is it your hobby to like everything Helene does?”
“Back then, Helene and Julian were perfect together. Everyone said so. But you are interested in Julian, so you just had to get in the middle and ended up marrying him.”
“And now, Helene likes this dress, so you suddenly have to have it too. Is there anything you don’t want to take from her?”
Lucy’s words were sharp, her tone dripping with sarcasm. The way she twisted things left Madeline and Brenda speechless.
How did she even have the nerve to talk like this?
“Auntie, you hurt your leg, not your brain, right? What exactly have I taken from her?” Madeline’s tone was cool, not bothering to hide her annoyance.
Lucy’s eyes flashed with contempt. “You haven’t? Haven’t you always been competing with Helene? If you weren’t, then why did you come back to the city?”
