Twin Cupids at Work: Daddy, Come Home! novel Chapter 79

Helene balanced a plate of fruit and started up the stairs. When she spotted Julian coming down, she flashed him a bright smile. “Julian.”

He didn’t even look at her. He just brushed past and kept going.

Julian had made it clear she wasn’t welcome here, but Helene managed to stay, leaning on Lucy’s support.

Lucy felt her anger bubbling up. “Julian, how long are you going to keep this up with Helene? Are you really this upset because of some bastard?”

Julian stopped in his tracks. His face tightened with irritation. “If I hear anyone call him that again, they will be out. I mean it.”

Lucy’s face turned red, and she almost leapt out of her chair.

Helene hurried over, trying to smooth things over. “Mrs. Grayson, please don’t be upset. Julian’s just in a bad mood today. He doesn’t mean it.”

Right then, Brady came down the stairs. Helene looked up at him. “Brady, where’s Julian going?”

Brady’s eyes flickered. He gave her a small, polite smile. “He’s just taking a stroll.”

Helene bit her lip. She was sure Brady knew exactly where Julian was headed, but he wasn’t about to tell her.

Lucy kept patting her chest, fuming. “This is all that boy’s fault. Julian would never treat me like this if it weren’t for him. Helene, go get that kid. Bring him to me. I need to teach him a lesson.”

Helene’s eyes glimmered with a quick, satisfied smile. “Of course, Mrs. Grayson. I’ll go right now.”

Noah, no one is going to help you today.

After dinner, Brenda headed home. Madeline snuggled up on the couch with Oliver, watching TV together.

The doorbell rang.

Madeline figured Brenda must have forgotten something, so she went to open the door without thinking twice.
