Blythe reassured her, "Don't worry, I'll talk to him. Nothing like that is going to happen."
Continuing on the previous subject, she added, "But Verena, I get where you're coming from. Your job isn't providing the kids with a better life, nor does it allow you to spend much time with them. They're still young and need proper care and attention. Why not let them come back to the Taylors? Once they're with us, we can ensure they get the attention and care they deserve, and lead a better life."
Verena shook her head. "No. I think they're fine with me."
The proposition was tempting to Verena, yet... She had witnessed Drusilla's attitude the night before. And first thing in the morning, Drusilla had come to warn her!
How could she possibly agree under these circumstances?
Blythe looked at Verena and said, "As their mother, you need to stop thinking about yourself. Like I said, letting them return to the Taylors won't shortchange you. You've got to think about their future. You don't want them growing up to live like you, stuck in a 9-to-5, too hesitant to even buy a bigger house, do you?"
Though Blythe had never been to Verena's place, she had seen Colton and Cormac's living environment through their livestreams. It was clear their living conditions were far from ideal.
Hearing Blythe's words felt like a stab to Verena's heart.
Yes, she was that poor! Both she and Drusilla were struggling!
But, those kids were Drusilla's life!
Frowning, she retorted, "All this talk, and it seems like you just want to take the kids without giving anything in return!"
Blythe glanced at Lilith upon hearing Verena's accusation.
Lilith, thinking Verena was making a fuss because she couldn't marry into the family, said, "Ms. Garner, my grandma didn't mean it like that. She's just concerned about the kids. As for your earlier mention of wanting to marry my uncle, that's something that will need more time."
"You're joking!" Verena exploded upon hearing Lilith's harsh words.
Just yesterday, during dinner with Lilith, she had found Lilith to be gentle and well-mannered, leaving a good impression on her. But she never expected Lilith to despise Drusilla so much, much less speak so ill of her in front of her!
No wonder Drusilla was so against the kids returning to the Taylors!
How could she not be?
This was how the Taylors viewed Drusilla!
Drusilla didn't know how long she could stay with the Taylors, and if the kids were to be taken to the Taylors, and they found any reason to dismiss Drusilla, wouldn't the kids be separated from her?
