Drusilla was sprawled out on the couch without so much as a blanket. After the temperature was turned down, it wasn't long before she started shivering from the cold.
Enoch, on the other hand, was lying in bed, just waiting to see when this woman would come begging to him!
...
“Cough... cough...”
Come morning, Enoch was woken up by the sound of Drusilla's coughing. He opened his eyes and glanced at the woman still lying on the couch, curled up and hugging her arms, not yet awake.
Was she for real?
She slept on the couch all night?
"Drusilla!" he called out.
But Drusilla didn't respond.
Oberon entered, as he did every morning, to help Enoch start his day. The moment he stepped in, he noticed the chill in the room.
He glanced at the thermostat—only in the low 60s—and then noticed the woman on the couch.
Hearing Drusilla’s cough, Oberon asked, "Why is Madam here? And why is it so cold? She doesn’t even have a blanket."
Enoch said, "Get her up."
He reached out, turning the temperature back to a comfortable setting.
Oberon approached Drusilla, trying to wake her. When that failed, he touched her forehead and turned to Enoch, "Mr. Taylor, Madam has a fever."
Enoch had to admit that he had been somewhat childish the night before. He had thought that if she got cold, she would come to him. But instead...
She had gotten a cold.
He instructed, "Call a doctor."
Oberon nodded. "Right away."
When the clock on the wall struck ten in the morning, Drusilla coughed a few times before finally waking up. She had gone to bed late, and with the cold and fever, her head felt like mush.
Drusilla knew it was irresponsible to think like this, but she just wanted to move out and avoid any further entanglements with the Taylor family.
"Mr. Taylor," Cybele’s voice sounded from the side.
Drusilla looked up to see Enoch in a wheelchair, pushed in by Oberon.
Seeing her awake, Enoch asked, "How are you feeling?"
Drusilla replied, “I’m fine now.”
Enoch gave her a look, his gaze carrying a hint of mockery, “You don’t look fine.”
He had never seen such a foolish woman! Catching a cold and still clueless about it.
If he had known she was this foolish, why bother taking anything seriously?
Oberon pushed Enoch's wheelchair closer and said to Drusilla, "Ma’am, you had a fever this morning. The doctor has already been here to see you."
Feeling a bit embarrassed for causing them trouble, Drusilla apologized, "I'm sorry, I was just so tired last night. I fell asleep on the couch."
