So what? In Drusilla’s eyes, she'd always remember their early days when Harlan wouldn't even splurge on a decent pair of sneakers. His first pair of shoes over a hundred bucks was actually a birthday gift from her.
And now, he's strutting around like he's some kind of big shot.
Harlan came back, looking at her, "Why'd you have to say that in front of Lilith?"
"Just reminding her not to fall for your tricks!" Drusilla snapped. "You said it yourself, didn’t you? I'm not framing you here! Now, please, get out!"
"Get out?" Harlan stood in front of Drusilla, his voice rising. "You ungrateful thing, I thought you were struggling without Enoch, felt sorry for you, and wanted to give you a chance. And this is how you repay me? By telling Lilith all that, you're just trying to ruin everything for me, aren't you? It’s like the boy who cried wolf. I was kind to you, and you’re plotting against me! You've really disappointed me."
He had spent all of last night trying to pacify Lilith after she threw a fit. This morning at the Taylor family breakfast, Drusilla was all smug, and Harlan couldn't do much then, but it didn't mean he wouldn't settle the score.
He was here exactly for that reason.
Drusilla almost laughed, "You being nice to me? You can actually say that?"
Truly, shamelessness knows no bounds!
Harlan felt justified, "Haven’t I been good to you? I said, if you leave Enoch, I can provide a place for you to stay, even give you the house. The one we bought has appreciated a lot, worth a few million now. What’s not to satisfy you?"
"Since you're being so kind, why can't I mention it to Lilith? If you don’t leave her, how can I be with you?"
