After speaking, Verena cast a glance at Drusilla, wanting to say hello, but remembering she was in front of Enoch, she held back.
Enoch said, "I've already looked into the hospital situation. The incident with the children was just an accident."
Verena asked, "So, you're not holding me responsible anymore?"
She had heard rumors that Enoch was going to press legal charges against her, which had infuriated Verena. Although she wasn't directly involved, she was still upset on behalf of Drusilla.
Enoch replied indifferently, "Yes, but since it's my children, I want to bring them home."
Verena defiantly asked, "Just like that? On what grounds?"
"Oberon," Enoch simply said.
Oberon stepped forward and handed a check to Verena. When she saw the amount, she coughed in surprise. This man really didn't hold back! That amount was more than she could earn in a lifetime of overtime!
As Verena was staring at the check in disbelief, Enoch continued, "This money is enough for a lifetime of luxury. But from now on, I hope you stay away from the children."
Verena suddenly found the check less appealing, asking, "Why should I?"
She had promised Drusilla she'd be the godmother to both kids, and she had watched them grow up over the years. Now she was just supposed to disappear?
Enoch stated, "My wife will take care of them now. Your presence could disrupt our family harmony."
He had even considered the possibility of Verena trying to use the kids as a reason to get close to him again, potentially causing trouble with Drusilla. Enoch was someone who disliked complications, so he wanted to avoid any future issues.
Verena protested, "No way! I have to see the kids! I'm sure Drusilla would agree."
She looked at Drusilla and asked, "Right?"
Drusilla glanced at Enoch and said, "Enoch, I think... it's too harsh to keep them apart for that reason."
If Verena had any other motives, refusing the money only made her appear foolish in his eyes.
...
Later that afternoon, just before school was over, Drusilla and Enoch arrived at the daycare. Enoch's car was parked right at the entrance, with Drusilla sitting inside, feeling a bit anxious.
She didn't know why she was so nervous.
She used to pick up the kids by herself all the time.
But now, she was with Enoch!
While she was feeling tense, Enoch seemed completely relaxed beside her. He was browsing something on his tablet, with his other hand holding his phone, engaged in a conversation.
