Lilith's reaction was more intense than expected, leaving Verena scrambling to cover her tracks, worried Lilith might suspect something. "What I mean is, whatever Drusilla does, it's a waste of effort. The kids are smart; they know who treats them well. Don't worry about it!"
Dealing with Lilith's constant bad-mouthing of Drusilla was getting to Verena. More importantly, she wasn't even sure if Lilith got the point of her reassurance!
Lilith looked at Verena and said, "I'm just looking out for you. The kids are back with the Taylors now, and this is your chance. Don't you want to marry my uncle? Now that the kids are back, you should get closer to him! Don't let your own kids end up benefiting someone else."
Verena nodded, "Yeah."
Seeing Verena seemed to take her advice, Lilith finally relaxed. "As long as you understand. I'm doing this for you!"
Verena flashed a small smile. "Alright, I've got to get back to work. You should head home."
With that, Lilith left.
...
After Drusilla and Blythe dropped Colton and Cormac back at school, they made a quick stop at the Lawson residence.
Hestia was out in the yard with Leander, watering the flowers, when Drusilla walked in. "Drusilla, you're back!" Hestia always had a way of sounding extra affectionate in front of Leander, something Drusilla had grown accustomed to.
She looked at Leander and said, "Dad, I'm back."
Hestia glanced at Drusilla, then told Leander, "I'll go check inside. You two chat. Don't be too grumpy, or Drusilla might think you're not happy to see her!"
With that, she went inside.
Leander admitted, "I know, but it's fine, even if we go bankrupt. I've saved some money for you and the kids. It's enough for you to buy a house and live comfortably. You and the kids can live there; don't worry about the family business."
Drusilla had always thought her father was upset with her, but she was touched to learn he had still planned for her future. Tears welled up in her eyes as she looked at her father, "Dad."
Leander looked away, trying to hide his emotions. He had been furious when he found out about her affair, disappointed that his own daughter could do such a thing.
But his anger faded over time. She was still his daughter, his only child.
Back then, they were doing well financially, and although he was outwardly displeased, he had secretly made arrangements for her. The money in her name was separate from the company, so even if the business went bankrupt, it wouldn't affect her.
As for the company, Leander was getting on in years and didn't have the energy to deal with it anymore.
