However, Drusilla's denials held no water with Serge. It was as if he already knew the truth.
"Why keep this a secret?" Serge pressed.
Drusilla looked down, her gaze fixed on the water in her cup, remaining silent.
Seeing her play dumb, Serge proposed, "Or... should I just go and tell Enoch about this?"
"Don't." Drusilla pleaded, looking up at him as her secret was out. "Enoch doesn't know. Can you please not tell him yet?"
Serge stroked his chin thoughtfully upon hearing her plea. "Why though? Verena's kids were sent back to the Taylor family, and you've seen how precious those kids are to them. By hiding this truth, you might end up being resented by them for a lifetime. After all, they could have grown up as part of the Taylor family, enjoying the privileges and eventually inheriting the Taylor fortune... Have you considered all this?"
The logic behind Drusilla's secrecy baffled him.
Hearing Serge's reasoning, Drusilla realized he didn't know the whole truth.
"I don't think it's necessary, and frankly, I don't care about all that," she responded.
"Yes, they are mine. I didn't want them to be taken in by the Taylor family initially because Enoch and I are planning to separate. But with things turning out this way, I have no choice. I just wanted the kids to spend some time with Enoch. After I separate from him, I intend to take them with me. So, could you please keep this between us for now?"
Serge caught the underlying message in her words. "You're married to Enoch, right? Why plan a separation?"
The idea of leaving Enoch and taking the kids seemed naive to him.
Drusilla explained, "Enoch was engaged to someone else. I was just a stand-in bride. How could he ever truly see me—a divorced woman—in any serious light? My relationship with him is purely out of necessity for my family. If I hadn't married him, my family would have faced bankruptcy."
