At that moment, Drusilla realized she had perhaps shared too much in front of Serge. "Anyway, I really hope you won't mention any of this to Enoch."
Even though she was aware of the close ties between Serge and Enoch, she clung to a slim hope and pleaded with him.
Serge looked at Drusilla and said, "Keeping this a secret won't do you any good. Besides, if you came clean about it, your standing with the Taylors could actually improve, given that you're the children's mother. Enoch might even..."
"Start to see me in a new light, accept me as his wife, just because of the children?"
Serge's gaze lingered on Drusilla as she continued, "If he would value me more because of the children, then what about Verena? He currently believes Verena is the children's mother, yet that hasn't improved her standing with him at all! Enoch isn't the type to change just because of the children. You're his friend; you of all people should know that. Besides, if this gets out, Enoch might just think this was all a scheme between me and Verena. There's no point in making an effort that won't be appreciated. Things are fine as they are now."
After Drusilla finished speaking, she took a sip of water, her head bowed.
Serge could tell she wasn't one to easily trust others.
Just then, the waiter brought over their dishes. Serge picked up a fork and offered her some food, saying, "Let's eat."
Hearing his words, Drusilla took a bite and then asked, "You won't tell Enoch, will you?"
Serge gave a slight smile and then asked a surprisingly unexpected question, "Do you like Enoch?"
Drusilla paused at his question, then chuckled, "Why would you ask such a thing? Isn't it a bit silly? In the world of adults, it's not about liking or disliking; it's all about interests."
