"Let me get your bath ready," said Oberon, noting the late hour. After tending to Enoch's needs and ensuring he was comfortably settled in bed, Oberon quietly exited the room.
...
Drusilla had already snuggled into bed, but not in her usual spot. Tonight, she occupied the guest room next door to Verena's.
No sooner had she laid down than her phone buzzed with a message from Enoch, "Where are you?"
Not even a heads-up before she left!
Ignoring Enoch's message, Drusilla tried to settle down. Soon another message arrived, "Join me for breakfast tomorrow?"
He seemed to understand her current mood and didn't push further, suggesting instead that they talk it over breakfast the following day.
A wry smile crossed Drusilla's face as she thought about Blythe's stern dismissal earlier.
It wasn't like she was overly sensitive. Blythe's protectiveness over Lilith, her granddaughter whom Drusilla had watched grow up, was understandable.
Favoring Lilith over her was only natural.
Yet...
In that moment, Drusilla's mind raced with thoughts of her future with Enoch and how Blythe's demeanor might shift should things turn sour.
What could she do if pushed away, especially with Colton and Cormac still at the Taylor residence?
Everyone says marriages should be between equals.
When she divorced Harlan, their families were on even footing, yet everything still seemed stacked against her.
How much more challenging would it be with Enoch, backed by the prestigious Taylor family?
As Drusilla pondered over Enoch's message, her phone rang. It was Verena, "Drusilla! Aunt Cybele told me you were kicked out?"
Verena's outrage was palpable even through the phone.
Verena agreed, "Alright. Take care of yourself. I'm just so angry! Do they think we're pushovers?"
...
At the break of dawn, Drusilla was already awake, tossing and turning restlessly.
After texting Verena, it wasn't long before Oberon called, instructing her to meet Enoch for breakfast. Enoch, unaware she had moved, had chosen a nearby diner for their meeting.
She took a cab straight there.
Upon arrival, Drusilla found Enoch waiting by the window, a table laden with breakfast goodies between them.
Taking her seat, she met Enoch's gaze, his eyes full of concern, "Been crying?"
"...Why would I cry?" Drusilla replied, taken aback.
"Did you and my mom have a fight? She seemed upset last night. Living together as a family, these things happen. Don't take it to heart."
