Twins - The Unforeseen Legacy of My Ex's Uncle-in-Law novel Chapter 280

Waiting around for Enoch was turning out to be a real drag. It seemed like they still had stuff to hash out, and Drusilla decided to use the moment to visit the ladies' room.

Inside, she overheard a gaggle of girls from their company gossiping. "Did you hear? Ms. Larkin's expecting, and Mr. Taylor's handed all of Mr. Stanton's projects over to Derek."

"Man, I envy Ms. Larkin! It must be nice being treated like royalty just because you're pregnant. The whole world seems to cater to her."

"Some folks think Mr. Stanton rubbed Mr. Taylor the wrong way, and this is Mr. Taylor's way of getting back at him."

"No way!"

After washing her hands, Drusilla left the restroom, catching a glimpse of Harlan standing outside, lighting up a cigarette.

The gossiping trio scurried off with their heads down upon seeing Harlan, obviously feeling a bit guilty for having just badmouthed him.

Stepping outside, Drusilla saw Harlan standing there, looking a mess with his tie all askew. He wasn't much of a smoker, but stress and setbacks at work sometimes drove him to light up.

Ignoring him, Drusilla walked past, but Harlan suddenly spoke up, "You're enjoying this, aren't you?"

She stopped, turned to look at him, and he continued, "Getting close to Enoch, sticking by his side, this is what you wanted, right? Do you have any idea how hard I've worked at the company? Sometimes getting only a couple of hours of sleep, I've worked my way up to where I am today... I was in charge of the carnival event, and now, I have to hand it all over. Funny, isn't it?"

There was a clear bitterness in his voice.
