"Oh, for heaven's sake!"
She'd been at it all morning, trying to get those two little rascals to eat as if it was a spoonful of poison they were avoiding at all costs. And then Drusilla walks in, utters just a single phrase?
And suddenly she's more effective than Verena?
Verena's their own mother, for crying out loud. How does she lose out to Drusilla?
This defies all logic!
But, as it stood, Blythe was at her wit's end.
Seeing the two kids finally settling down to eat brought a sigh of relief from her.
Enoch looked over at Blythe, asking, "Got any more objections now?"
Lilith, sitting to the side with a face as dark as thunder, couldn't believe it. She never imagined a day when Verena's kids would take such a liking to Drusilla.
She pressed, her voice tight, "Uncle, why'd you hand over Harlan's project at the company to someone else? He's my husband. Don't you think you're being a bit too obvious in your opposition?"
Blythe glanced between Lilith and Enoch.
Enoch, calm as ever, as if he'd done no wrong, replied, "You're pregnant, and there's too much going on at the company. I thought I'd lighten his load a bit, give him more time for you. Let him keep you company more. Is that so wrong?"
Lilith felt like he was just spinning tales!
Clearly, it was an excuse to undermine Harlan, but he made it sound as if he truly had her best interests at heart.
"I don't need looking after," Lilith retorted.
Enoch seemed disappointed, "Seems my good intentions are lost on you, Lilith... Ever since Harlan came into the picture, what am I to you? Just a thorn in your side, I suppose! Well, I'm just a cripple, after all!"
