“Odette’s back in town.”
“You’re not gonna tell me this is all about Odette, are you?” Serge said with disbelief. “As far as I know, he’s not exactly losing sleep over her. He’s never been like this before.”
Today, Enoch’s reaction was, admittedly, a bit over the top.
Drusilla was at a loss for words, merely sighing before speaking, “Let’s just drop it, Dr. Denton. Please, don’t say things like that in front of him again!”
“What for?” Oberon chuckled. “Aren’t they heading for a divorce? What’s there to misunderstand? You still have feelings for him, don’t you?”
He had deliberately stirred the pot in front of Enoch to gauge his reaction. Clearly, Enoch wasn’t as indifferent towards Drusilla as he pretended to be.
If he truly felt nothing, he wouldn’t care whether or not she was moving on.
As for Drusilla, despite her attempts to remain detached, it was obvious she was still concerned about how Enoch viewed her.
“I don’t have feelings for him,” Drusilla denied. “I just don’t want him getting the wrong idea about us. It would reflect poorly on me! You know how this world treats women. Men can do anything, and it’s just a bit of banter, but if a woman steps out of line, society can’t wait to crush her. I’ve already been through the wringer with my divorce from Harlan. I don’t need rumors about me and Enoch adding to that.”
Serge looked genuinely remorseful, “Sorry, I didn’t think it through. My apologies.”
Drusilla cracked a small smile at his words, “I’m going to check on the kids.”
Serge nodded, “Alright.”
He had planned to visit his sister as well, but after Drusilla’s remarks, he didn’t follow her.
