Hestia had just received a flurry of calls, with several collaborators suddenly backing out of deals they were all set on finalizing.
All fingers pointed to the Taylor family!
In this city, the Taylors held sway. Enoch Taylor had the power to make or break fortunes with just a word. If he decided the Lawson family was going under, that was that...
The root of the problem? It had to involve Odette.
Hestia couldn't hide her frustration with Drusilla. Everything had been fine, and now she couldn't manage Enoch? Useless!
When Drusilla picked up Hestia's call, she was taken aback, “Shouldn't you be discussing this with your daughter? When Odette was away, I took the heat for her. Now that she's back, she should be the one dealing with Enoch!”
Hestia replied, “How could I possibly do that? She's not married to Enoch. You are, Drusilla! As the older sister and Enoch's wife, you should be thinking about our family. Your father is on the phone as we speak, trying to stave off the bank from foreclosing on us. You wouldn't want to see him homeless at his age, would you?”
Always playing the father card!
Her stepmother never tired of shifting the burden onto her.
Drusilla coolly responded, “I'll take care of dad. And as for you and Odette, figure it out yourselves.”
It was clear to Drusilla that Hestia and Odette cared far more about the Lawson family assets than her or her father did. Without the family wealth, they couldn't live the high life they were accustomed to. They might even have to—God forbid—get jobs.
After all, this mess was Odette's doing. She'd played the role of Enoch's fiancée to the hilt, living the good life. Now that trouble had come, it was Drusilla's problem?
That just didn't sit right with him.
Watching Leander's nonchalance, Hestia was beside herself, realizing her husband was all too willing to push Odette into Enoch's arms.
Feeling helpless, she called Odette to relay the family's dire straits, "Odette, maybe you should talk to Enoch. Your sister seems out of options, and I think Enoch still has feelings for you. We can't afford to let the family go under!"
Odette, just arriving at an event, was appalled, "How could I possibly do that? I don't want to marry him! He's already married to Drusilla! Besides, mom, he's disabled. If I marry him, people will say I did it for the money. That'll be the end of my social life!"
