She was dead on her feet.
Giving Enoch a heads up, she grabbed her clothes and headed into the bathroom.
…
Enoch sat in his wheelchair, listening to the sounds of her washing up in the bathroom, staring at the closed door. His room, which used to house only himself, now breathed a new life with her presence.
He used to cherish the quiet, but now… he found himself enjoying the hustle and bustle she brought into the room every day!
After sitting for a couple of minutes, Enoch was about to wheel himself over to the couch when Drusilla's phone started ringing.
Her phone was in her purse, which she had placed on the table upon entering. He reached into her bag, took out the phone, and saw "Dad" flashing on the screen.
It was a call from Leander!
The thought of Drusilla's father made Enoch's expression turn solemn.
That man was the biggest opponent of his relationship with Drusilla!
In Leander's eyes, he was nothing but a cripple.
With this thought, Enoch's face darkened, but he still answered the call.
Without saying a word, he was greeted by Leander's voice, “Drusilla, how are things with Enoch? Have you talked to him about the divorce?”
Previously, Drusilla had mentioned that she would ask for a divorce once Odette returned.
She hadn't been home in days, so Leander decided to call and get things clear.
Before Enoch could respond, Leander continued, “If Enoch doesn't agree, you come back home, and I'll handle him. It was agreed that Odette would marry him, and now that Odette is back, his family shouldn't give you any more trouble!”
This whole affair had nothing to do with Drusilla from the start.
Leander was truly unwilling to drag his only daughter into this mess.
Enoch retorted, “Seems like Mr. Lawson forgets his pain once the wound heals! Maybe I should have let your company go bankrupt!”
Leander, unfazed by Enoch's threat, said, “If you insist on going down that path, be my guest! Odette has returned, and I will bring her back. As for Drusilla, she's my daughter, and I hope, Mr. Taylor, you will let her go.”
“And what if I don’t?” Enoch scoffed. If it weren't for Drusilla still being here, he would have lost his patience with the Lawson family the moment Odette returned with that attitude.
How ridiculous!
He wondered where Leander got the confidence to negotiate with him.
Upon hearing Enoch’s response, Leander said, “Mr. Taylor, we live in a society governed by laws. Drusilla never wanted to marry you! I hope you can let her go. I will come to fetch her myself tomorrow!”
The thought of his daughter under Enoch’s control, facing threats in the Taylor family, irked Leander.
Enoch sneered, “How do you know she doesn’t want to?”
He still believed, deep down, that Drusilla had feelings for him!
