Leander said, "If you're worried about him getting angry, just send Odette over. The Taylor family has always been good to us. If it hadn't been for Enoch's incident, and Odette running away from the wedding... Well, as her mother, you share some of the blame. When Enoch was in good standing, you all were cozying up to him. The moment trouble hit, your daughter bolted. Can you blame them for being upset?"
Odette, who had been quietly enjoying some fruit at the side, silently put down her snack upon hearing Leander’s words.
She looked at Leander and said, “Dad… I admit, what happened before was my fault, but now, my sister is married into their family. Let's just leave it be! Besides, I think Enoch really likes my sister, and she gets along well with the Taylors! Not like me… Their family looks down on me now.”
Leander turned to Odette and said, “If you don’t want to marry into the Taylor family, then you can’t keep living off us at home. You’ve never looked for a job since graduating… It’s high time you started standing on your own two feet!”
Odette stiffened upon hearing Leander's words.
Hestia, sitting nearby, started to tear up.
Holding a tissue, she dabbed at her eyes, saying, “It’s all my fault. I’m not capable enough to take care of my own daughter. I thought, marrying you, I’d have a support for life. But it turns out... In your heart, Odette and I are always outsiders, and only Drusilla is your real family! If that’s the case, what’s the point of my existence? I might as well be dead!”
“Mom,” Odette said, looking at her mother.
Hestia cried even harder, “When I came into this family, how old was Drusilla? If it weren’t for me, could she have grown up well? To think I’ve slaved away for the Lawson family all my life, only to end up like this.”
Drusilla sat quietly, observing Hestia’s pitiful state.
Their father was a soft-hearted man. Hestia had been widowed before, and out of sympathy for her plight, he had always treated her and Odette kindly.
But now, it seemed she was exploiting that sympathy to play the victim in front of him.
