Glancing at the expensive imported fruits on the table, one couldn't help but admire how well Odette and her mother knew how to live.
Upon hearing Drusilla's words, Odette stiffened. Leave the Lawsons?
As if!
Despite everything, the Lawsons still had some money to their name. Here, she could at least enjoy good food and a comfortable bed. Life wasn't too shabby.
But leaving the Lawsons? That was an uncertain and potentially grim future!
Yet, faced with Drusilla's statement, Odette found herself at a loss for words, her frustration only manifesting in tightly clenched fists.
Just then, a servant approached, saying, “Sir, the lady has locked herself upstairs in an attempt to end her life.”
Hearing this, Odette forced out tears, calling out “Mom” as she ran upstairs.
Drusilla watched the mother-daughter duo, inwardly commenting on their convincing performance.
After a while, Odette came back down, knelt before Leander, and pleaded, “Dad, mom has locked herself in her room. Please, you have to check on her. What if she's really gone? She's been by your side, loving you all her life. You can't be so heartless!”
Odette's plea was filled with tears and sorrow.
The nearby servants, all loyal to Hestia who had hired them, began to urge Leander as well.
Sighing, Leander, not wanting to cause a scene, reluctantly went upstairs.
Drusilla, sitting on the sofa, found the whole spectacle rather amusing.
...
Seeing Odette in her bed, Drusilla couldn't hide her irritation.
“Your mother really does spoil you, giving you this room back,” she remarked.
It was clear that under Enoch's pressure, Hestia had already returned the room to Drusilla.
Seeing Drusilla, Odette sat up, retorting, “You're living it up like a queen at the Taylors and not even staying here. What's it to you if I use this room?”
“Even if I'm not here, I don't want you in this room,” Drusilla responded, her frustration evident.
Odette shot back, “You're being petty. Does Enoch know?”
“Drusilla, dad asked you to come back, but you're not really considering leaving the Taylors, are you? You know they don't like me. If you come back, who knows what will become of this place? Can you really bear to watch dad's lifelong efforts go to waste?”
