Twins - The Unforeseen Legacy of My Ex's Uncle-in-Law novel Chapter 92

When Enoch heard what Drusilla had said, he couldn't help but shoot her a surprised glance. "Do you really think I'm the sort of guy who can't tell right from wrong?"

Drusilla paused, taken aback by his response.

"Look, you've been treating me, and it's been working wonders—I've got hope again. Why on earth would I lash out at you?" Enoch added, clearly not the ungrateful type.

Sitting across from him, Drusilla picked up a paring knife and started peeling an apple for him. Dealing with Enoch, she realized, was actually quite enjoyable. Sure, he could be a bit full of himself and had a sharp tongue, but he was appreciative. Anything you did for him, he remembered and made sure you didn't regret it.

Her thoughts briefly shifted to Harlan. Compared to Enoch, that guy didn't stand a chance.

Meanwhile, Enoch lay on his bed, continuing to work on his design sketches.

Drusilla finished peeling the apple, chopped it into pieces, and offered some to him. "Want some?"

Normally, Enoch wouldn't go near apples. But seeing the effort Drusilla put into it, he was about to make an exception when Oberon chimed in from the side, "Madam, Mr. Taylor doesn't really do apples. Pass them here; I'm quite fond of them."

Oberon was just trying to spare Drusilla any potential embarrassment or hurt feelings—knowing how sensitive girls could be.

So, to ease the awkwardness, he took the apple slices Drusilla had cut and started eating them himself.

After a couple of bites, Oberon noticed the atmosphere in the room had grown noticeably colder. Looking up, he caught Enoch staring at him with a look that could only be described as aggrieved.

Oberon could only wonder what he'd done wrong this time.

Drusilla, somewhat surprised by Enoch's reaction, mentioned, "I didn't know you didn't like apples. Grandpa Wendell loves them."

"He does, indeed," Enoch replied stiffly, feeling irrationally annoyed.

"But I don't like owing people favors. Just tell me, and I'll make it right," she insisted, wanting to clear the debt.

Enoch looked at her, slightly annoyed, "Oh, so buying me some fruit clears your debt to me? My favors must not be worth much then."

Drusilla was taken aback. "You were the one who said I didn't have to thank you. And now you're complaining?"

Enoch didn't miss a beat. "Instead of worrying about this, you should focus on finding Odette. That's what really matters."

Then, looking at Drusilla with a hint of suspicion, he added, "You haven't found any leads on Odette? Drusilla, you're not avoiding finding her to stay close to me, are you?"

The thought that she might want to stay by his side because she liked him wasn't entirely out of the question.
