Enoch chuckled, "Sorry, my wife is a bit spoiled by me. I hope you can understand, Kendrick. As for what happened outside, I heard it all. It wasn't my wife who started the trouble; she was just standing up for herself after being bullied. At home, she's my queen, and Lilith should respect her as her aunt-in-law. It's a title I've given her, and if there's any issue, I apologize to you on her behalf."
Harlan couldn't believe his ears. Even now, Enoch was defending Drusilla?
"But Uncle Enoch, your hospitalization is all because of Drusilla," Harlan protested.
"How come I didn't know my hospitalization was her fault? Did the doctor tell you that?" Enoch shot Harlan an annoyed look. He was tired of his constant complaints.
Lilith wasn't always like this, but Harlan had changed her!
Sensing Enoch's displeasure, Kendrick intervened, "Lilith, take your husband and step outside."
"Dad."
"Are you not listening to me?" Kendrick said sternly.
Biting her lip, Lilith glanced at Harlan and they both left.
Once they were gone, Kendrick turned to Enoch, "I've always thought you were clear-headed, especially about matters of the heart. I hope you think this through. This woman is not right for you!"
Enoch replied calmly, "I like her, and that makes her right for me. At this point, if I can't even decide who I want to be with, wouldn't that be a tragedy?"
Kendrick was left speechless by his response. After all, his position in the Taylor family was that of an adopted son. If anything serious happened to Enoch, it wasn't his place to say anything.
Enoch then said, "Thanks for coming to see me today, Kendrick."
"It's no trouble," Kendrick replied helplessly. "Just glad you're okay."
"You didn't have to come all this way. The company has enough on its plate."
"Then stay home and don't cause trouble," Kendrick said, despite spoiling his daughter. Enoch had made his stance clear, and Kendrick had no grounds to interfere further. He couldn't just oppose Enoch over such a trivial matter, especially with Enoch's health being a concern. He needed to be more considerate.
"Dad."
"Stop making a fuss," Kendrick said. "I've got things to do. I'm heading back."
…
Back in the hospital room, Enoch lay in bed, having let go of Drusilla's hand. She sat beside him, pondering his words from earlier, finding them almost unbelievable.
She said, "I thought you'd scold me just to smooth things over."
A light scolding from him might have made things easier with Kendrick.
