Enoch massaged his temples and grumbled, "I just can't stand kids."
"Really?" Drusilla asked, "Why not? They're so adorable."
"Adorable? My foot!" His daily encounters were with nothing but brats.
Whenever the cousins came over, they'd wreak havoc, exploiting their youth as an excuse for everything. It was downright irritating.
"Kids are naturally cute," Drusilla insisted.
Colton and Cormac are such darlings!
"I can't be bothered to explain," Enoch dismissed the topic.
As Drusilla was debating with Enoch, her phone buzzed. It was Cormac calling from his smartwatch.
"Excuse me, I need to take this," then she stood up.
On the other end, Cormac's voice bubbled with excitement, "Mommy."
"Why are you calling me now?" Drusilla inquired.
"Ha, I'm at the hospital." Drusilla had mentioned she'd be at the hospital today when she dropped them off in the morning.
"Aren't you supposed to be at daycare? How did you end up at the hospital?" Drusilla asked.
"The head of our daycare fell ill, so our teacher took us to visit her."
Since Drusilla had location sharing set up with Colton and Cormac, Cormac knew she was close by and decided to call her.
"I'll come over and see you," she offered.
"Okay, Mommy, love you!" Cormac blew a kiss through the phone, making Drusilla chuckle before hanging up.
She glanced at Enoch, "I need to step out for a bit."
"Your son?" Enoch guessed.
"But look at them! They're the spitting image!" Blythe argued. The online streams had filters that made the resemblance less obvious.
But in person, the similarity was uncanny.
Blythe couldn’t believe that’s a pure coincidence. She approached the boys, "Excuse me, boys, what's your mom's name?"
Cormac glanced at her and, despite Blythe's friendly appearance, cautiously replied, "My mom? Her name's Verena Garner. Why?"
They were taught never to share real information with strangers.
Blythe pressed on, "Could I have your mother's phone number?"
She was determined to get to the bottom of this, suspecting a connection between the boys and Enoch.
"Sure," Cormac said, handing over Verena's number.
Just then, the daycare teacher approached, "Colton, Cormac, time to head back!"
