Lauren asked, “What are you doing here at Mount Ardwood?”

Aveline didn’t care what excuse Xavier had come up with. Anyway, she no longer cared about his social standing. She replied to Lauren,

“The Crestmark project has started construction on site.”

Rupert said, “Yes, that’s what Xavier said too. Your mother just loves to ask.

If you have nothing to say, then don’t. There’s no need to force conversation.”

Aveline lowered her eyes and pressed her lips together.

Rupert was always so good to her, but she was about to let him down.

Xavier didn’t love her, and she couldn’t waste her entire life serving him.

Since Rupert had spoken, Lauren didn’t dare say another word, and she and Leona glared resentfully at Aveline.

Brielle said with a smile, “Xavier and Aveline, go in and see Uncle. He just woke up and was asking about you two since he didn’t see you.”

A nurse was taking Jonathan’s blood pressure, and she had just finished when they walked in.

Xavier greeted him, but Aveline remained calm and said nothing.

Xavier glanced at her, a faint smile on his lips, but he didn’t say anything.

Jonathan smiled. “You’re here. I was just asking about you. I thought Xavier would be too busy with work to come

see me.”

His wife laughed. “What are you talking about? Xavier is your nephew. No matter how busy he is, if you’re sick, he’ll definitely drop everything to come see you.”

Xavier gave a slight smile. “Work wasn’t busy today. Aveline was busier than I was. I went to pick her up, that’s why

we’re late.”

Xavier glanced at her, and seeing she wasn’t speaking, he smiled and said, “She graduated from the architecture de- partment at Entora University. Architectural design is her specialty.”

The show had to go on, so Aveline had no choice but to follow Xavier and sit on the long sofa opposite the bed.

But she had no intention of speaking, letting Xavier handle the chatterbox Jonathan by himself.

Ten minutes later, Jonathan was still asking about the theme park project. Aveline wanted to use the restroom, so she stood up.
