Urging Him to Get a Divorce (Aveline and Xavier) novel Chapter 818

**TITLE: A Divorce 818**

Before Jacob welcomed Courtney and Josephine into the Sutton family fold, Aveline had always believed him to be a devoted and affectionate father. In her childhood memories, especially during the days when her mother was still alive, Jacob had showered her with love and gifts, fulfilling her every desire with a smile.

But everything changed after her mother’s untimely passing. With the arrival of Courtney and Josephine, Aveline’s perception of Jacob began to shift dramatically. It was as if a veil had been lifted, revealing the truth that had been obscured for so long. The affection Jacob had once lavished upon her now felt hollow and insincere, a façade that crumbled under the weight of reality.

Jacob had always assumed he would never have a son, and perhaps that was why he had been so indulgent with his daughters. Yet, it was Josephine who had captured his heart most completely. Aveline could hardly fathom the irony: the other woman in Jacob’s life and the daughter born from that union had taken precedence over her, leaving Aveline feeling like a mere afterthought.

What must Jacob have felt in his final moments? Did he grapple with remorse? Did he wish he could turn back time and make different choices? The questions swirled in Aveline’s mind like a tempest, leaving her feeling unsettled and lost.

As she stood there, lost in her thoughts, Xavier approached her, his presence a comforting balm amidst the chaos. He enveloped her in his arms, his voice a gentle whisper, “Baby, if you need to cry, then let it out. You deserve to cry.”

Aveline pressed her cheek against the solid warmth of his chest, struggling to find her voice. Tears brimmed in her eyes, but she blinked them back, taking a deep breath to steady herself. “How did he die?” she finally managed to ask, her voice barely above a whisper.

Xavier’s response was somber. “He was stabbed twice. The last wound was fatal.”

Suddenly, the sound of hurried footsteps broke through the heavy atmosphere. Amy rushed in, her voice urgent as she announced, “Mr. Beltran, ma’am, it’s Josephine.”

Aveline turned to see Josephine barreling toward them, her face a mask of feigned grief. “Brother-in-law, sister, is it Dad?” she gasped, desperation lacing her words.

Xavier’s gaze hardened, his dark eyes studying Josephine with an icy detachment. He remained silent, allowing the weight of the moment to hang heavily in the air.

Aveline, feeling a surge of anger, pushed Xavier away and wiped her tears with determination. She turned to Josephine, her expression cold and unyielding. “You’re putting on quite the show, aren’t you?”

Inside, Josephine was a bundle of nerves, yet she fought to maintain her façade. “Sister, brother-in-law, why aren’t you saying anything? It can’t be Dad, can it?”

“How could Dad be dead? I refuse to believe it!” she wailed, her voice cracking as she began to sob, the tears flowing freely. It was unclear whether her tears were born of genuine fear or the weight of her guilt, but they poured forth nonetheless, a mix of emotions swirling within her.

A nearby staff member suggested that Josephine go inside to see for herself, but she crumpled to the floor, burying her face in her hands. “I can’t bear to look,” she cried, her voice muffled by her palms.

With a tremor in her voice, she looked up at Xavier, desperation etched across her features. “Brother-in-law, will you come in with me?”
