Josephine continued, “My paternal cousin is definitely willing to apologize. I’m just afraid my sister will see the secu- rity footage and refuse to let it go. It’s probably best if she doesn’t see the video.”

Xavier’s dark eyes were deep and heavy as he looked toward Josephine.

Josephine had never seen Xavier look at her like that, as if he was trying to see right through her.

Xavier often looked at Aveline that way, though.

Josephine’s heart tightened, but then she thought, Xavier was so good to her, he couldn’t possibly suspect her.

So she continued, “I’m afraid the security footage will show that my sister accidentally tripped our cousin, and that my sister won’t let it go.”

“My sister has been in a really bad mood lately.”

“Darling, why don’t you let me and our cousin see the footage first to know what happened?”

Xavier said calmly, “Only the police can retrieve the security footage. If Aveline just accidentally tripped Eileen, the police won’t hold Eileen responsible.”

Josephine bit her lip and pleaded, “Darling, can’t you find a way to make this whole thing go away?”

“What about the security footage?”

Josephine frowned. “If Xav can persuade Aveline, the footage won’t matter at all.”

“And what if he can’t?”

Josephine said irritably, “You have to at least let him try.”

With that, she ignored Eileen and followed Xavier.

Meanwhile, with Aveline’s group, Fiona said to the two officers, “Should we go to the Beltran Hotel to get the securi- ty footage now?”
