“Let’s go talk to a therapist. The things you’re not willing to tell me, you can tell the therapist.”
As he spoke, Xavier reached out to take Aveline’s hand.
Aveline quickly pulled it back forcefully, then put both hands behind her back. “Don’t touch me.”
“You’re being ridiculous. You’re the one with a psychological problem.”
“For marital problems, we should see a marriage counselor, not a therapist. You just think I have a psychological problem, don’t you?”
Xavier said flatly, “Marriage counselors are all frauds.”
“Heh, you’re the liar. You dare to cheat but won’t admit it. I saw you getting a room with Jacob’s illegitimate daughter with my own eyes. You have the nerve to make excuses? You’re shameless.”
Xavier frowned. “Didn’t I say you could check the security footage?”
“Of course I’m going to check the security footage.”
“I don’t want to waste any more words with you. Get out.”
With that, Aveline started pushing Xavier out.
Xavier, however, pinned Aveline against the door, staring down at her.
“Aveline, stop throwing a tantrum. You know perfectly well what the real problem between us is, or maybe you refuse to admit that’s the problem.”
“I just want you to know, there’s no way I’m agreeing to a divorce. We’re not at that point. If I ever wanted to divorce you, why would I have gone to get the marriage certificate with you in the first place? It would have been pointless.”
“Having Collin go to the Patriarch will only upset them both. They’re so old, why would you put them through that?”
“Either you calm down and talk to me properly, or we go see a therapist together.”
“If you don’t like Josephine, then I’ll stay away from her from now on.

But I need you to be honest with me.”
Aveline said coldly, “Get out.”
She understood. Xavier was playing Josephine.

Xavier would not marry Josephine. Because of her status as an illegitimate daughter, because her mother was the other woman, as the head of the, he could never marry her.
Xavier had more self–respect than Jacob.
So she continued, “That’s right, you have more self–respect than Jacob. After all, you have much more status and position than he does.”
“But you know what? If my mom had known while she was alive that Jacob was keeping a mistress and had an illegitimate daughter, she would have definitely divorced him.”
Xavier frowned. “Why are you bringing that up again?”
“Xavier, I don’t like you anymore. I don’t love you anymore.”
Aveline said it very seriously.
Xavier froze, reaching out to touch Aveline’s face. “Aveline…”
“Don’t touch me.”
Aveline slapped his hand away.
“Are you leaving or not? I don’t have the patience to waste my breath on you anymore.”
Xavier gave her a deep look, lowered his eyes in thought for a moment, and then turned to walk
out the door.
But after just two steps, he turned back. “Have you gotten your period?”
Aveline didn’t answer him and closed the door.
She leaned her back against the door, feeling completely drained.
She let out a self–mocking laugh. Had she and Xavier said more to each other in the past few days than they had in the entire year they lived under the same roof after getting engaged?
Her phone rang.
Aveline took a deep breath, walked over, and took it out of her purse to look.

It was a text from Xavier. If your period doesn’t come, you must see a doctor.]

Aveline didn’t reply. She walked to the bed with her phone, lay down, and closed her eyes to rest.
She hadn’t even taken the business card out of her jeans pocket. The jeans had been washed, and she wondered if it had been washed to pieces.
Aveline’s deep talk with Xavier led to nothing.
Meanwhile, Josephine had a distracted lunch with Gerald, then rushed home to tell Courtney:
“Mom, I have a feeling Xav won’t divorce Aveline.”
Courtney calmly looked at her new manicure. “How is that possible? The divorce papers have already been drawn up.”
Josephine told Courtney about her phone call with Xavier and how he made her feel something
was wrong.
Courtney’s gaze shifted from her nails to Josephine. “You’re saying Xavier said he was going to coax Aveline?”
Josephine nodded. “Xavier has always been cold to Aveline. When has he ever coaxed her?”

When is the novel ending? It’s so unnecessarily long… not a single intimacy or connection just fighting and bickering from the beginning to end...
