“Mr. Charles Beltran told us that Xavier had told him if he didn’t like you, he wouldn’t have gotten engaged to you, let alone gotten a marriage certificate.”

The moment Aveline heard this, she knew Xavier wasn’t just using these lines to fool her, but the elders as well.

She said flatly, “But I don’t have feelings for him anymore.”

Collin and Helen fell silent, their expressions grave.

After all, their only grandchild was getting a divorce; they couldn’t possibly be in a good mood.

Aveline was about to say a few words to comfort them when Miranda came over to say dinner was ready.

Aveline helped her grandmother up, ready to move to the dining room, when the phone on the coffee table rang.

Aveline picked it up and saw it was a message from Xavier. [Landed.]

Her expression was cold as she put down her phone and went to the dining room to eat.

After dinner, after sitting in the living room for a while, Aveline took her maternal grandparents out for a walk.

While walking in the neighborhood’s landscaped garden, Aveline’s phone rang. It was a call from Miranda.

She answered, and Miranda said, “Aveline, Mr. Beltran is here.”

Aveline instinctively let out an “ah,” then her voice turned cold, “What is he doing here?”

“Well… what else could he be doing? He’s here to visit Collin and Paulina, of course.

He said he just got back in the country and came straight from the airport.”

Collin and Paulina looked at Aveline; from her expression and what she said, they could tell something was wrong.

Aveline had no choice but to tell the two elders, “It’s nothing. You two go on, I’ll follow behind.”

The two elders thought it was really nothing and continued walking.

Aveline said coldly to Miranda, “Get rid of him.”

Miranda glanced at Xavier, who was sitting on the living room sofa drinking tea, and looked troubled.

“Aveline, how am I supposed to do that?

Chase him out with a broom?

Besides, we don’t even have a broom in the house.”

Aveline gritted her teeth and stopped, waiting until her maternal grandparents were a little further away before lower- ing her voice to say:

“Xavier, do you have any idea how shameless you are?”

Xavier let out a low chuckle. “Where are you? Why are you whispering?

So secretive.”

He had the nerve to laugh. Aveline said coldly, “Are you leaving or not? If you don’t, I’ll really chase you out with a broom when I get back.”

Xavier sounded surprised. “You have a broom at home? Doesn’t everyone use a vacuum cleaner now?”

Hearing this, Aveline suspected he might have overheard what Miranda said to her on the phone.

Seeing she was quiet, Xavier said, “I’m hungry. I haven’t had dinner yet. Why don’t you ask Miranda to make me something to eat?”

“The way Miranda looks at me, it’s like she thinks I’m about to steal something. I’m too embarrassed to ask her my- self.”

Aveline said coldly, “Then you can just starve.”

With that, she hung up the phone.

Then she sent a text to Miranda, [Don’t make him any food. I’ll kick him out when I get back.]

Miranda looked at the message with a troubled expression.

Xavier saw this and smiled. “What did Aveline text you? Don’t tell me she told you not to make me any food?”

Miranda gave an awkward smile. “No, it’s not from Aveline. It’s, uh, from someone from my hometown.”

Xavier just gave a faint smile and said nothing, picking up his teacup to take a sip.
