“If Dad’s company doesn’t do well, our family can forget about living this good life ”
Over at Granvia Restaurant, the party broke up, and the group left the private dining room for the parking lot.
Amy and Maria helped put the two paintings into the car.
Rupert said, “Xavier, you drive Aveline, Collin, and Mr. Li home.”
Xavier, as if he’d been waiting for Rupert to say that, quickly agreed.
Aveline glanced at him coolly and said, “That’s not necessary, Rupert. Maria is driving us. She hasn’t been drinking.”
Rupert told her, “Xavier’s car will follow you, to keep Jacob from bothering you again.”
Aveline figured that after being humiliated, Jacob and Josephine probably wouldn’t come back to bother them tonight.
Even if they did, with Maria around, a coward like Jacob couldn’t do anything to them.
She said, “That’s too much trouble. If he takes us home, he’ll still have to go back to his own place.”
Rupert replied, “Then just have Xavier spend the night at Garden Estate. No need to come all the way back to the Beltran’s mansion.”
“You’re not going back to Parkview Estates, and he’ll be bored at home all by himself.”
Aveline: “…The Patriarch…”
“Aveline, get in the car.”
Xavier said, pulling Aveline toward the Baldwin family’s car.
Aveline tried to shake his hand off, and he let go, but then he wrapped an arm around her shoulder, leaning in close.
“I’ll just take you home. If you don’t want me to stay the night, I won’t.”

“The Patriarch means well, so don’t argue with him.
“If you’re not happy about something, just tell me I’ll work with you, okay?”
Aveline gave him a cold look. “Let go.”
Navier just smiled nonchalantly and let go of her shoulder.

Neither of them knew that Rupert was watching from behind, and seeing how close they were, he thought their relationship might not be so bad after all.
There was probably still a chance to fix things.
Aveline had just gotten into the car when the manager came running out of the club.
The manager ran to Aveline’s car door. “Ms. Sutton, a guest left a note for you.”
Aveline wondered who would leave her a note and got out of the car.
“The front desk clerk said your sister left it.”
As he spoke, the manager handed a folded piece of paper to Aveline.
Xavier, who was standing nearby, heard the word “sister” and guessed it might be Josephine. His face darkened, and he reached for the note.
But Aveline snatched it first, a mocking smile on her lips as she looked at Xavier.
“It’s for me. Why are you trying to grab it?”
Xavier said helplessly, “It probably says something nasty. I just don’t want you to get upset after reading it.
Aveline ignored him and said to the manager, “Thank you.”
The manager then left.
Aveline unfolded the note and read what was written on it:
[Sister, that painting of your long–dead mom was actually a gift to me from my darling. Because you made a scene, I was kind enough to give it back to my darling so he could give it as a birthday gift to your pathetic grandfather.
Sister, don’t you think I’m so kind?]
Although there was no signature, Aveline knew Josephine had written it.

Navier kept his eyes on Aveline Seeing her expression turn cold, he had a bad feeling and asked,
“Was it from Josephine? What did it say?”
Aveline shot him a cold look and asked in a chilly voice. “You want to know?”
“Then take a good look. Her handwriting is ugly, but she’s so kind–hearted. You should want to keep this note.”
With that, she shoved the note into Xavier’s hand.
Then Aveline got in the car. closed the door, and told Maria. “Let’s go.”
Xavier held the note but didn’t read it right away. He got into the black Bentley and told Amy to follow the Baldwin family’s car.
Then, he turned on the light inside the car and unfolded the note to read it.
Xavier’s face instantly turned cold and fierce. He cursed, “Damn it.”
Amy jumped and quickly glanced at the rearview mirror.
Xavier’s hand holding the note clenched into a fist, crumpling the paper. A fire burned inside him, as if he wanted to shred the note to pieces.
He stared out the car window, the cold fury on his face deepening.

When is the novel ending? It’s so unnecessarily long… not a single intimacy or connection just fighting and bickering from the beginning to end...
