Gerald replied to her, “I didn’t say it to her face.
You’re just too kind–hearted.”
Xavier carried Aveline to her room on the 16th floor. The manager was already waiting there, holding an ice bucket and a first–aid kit, just in case.
Aveline wanted to get down to open the door, but Xavier held her tighter. “Don’t move.”
Then he ordered the manager, “Open the door.”
“Ah, yes.”
The manager replied, thinking it was a good thing he’d grabbed a key card from the front desk, and took it out to open the door.
Xavier carried Aveline inside, placed her on the sofa, and then took the ice from the manager to continue icing her injury.
Aveline took the ice from his hand with a detached expression. “I can do it myself.”
She rested her leg on the sofa and pressed the towel–wrapped ice against her painful ankle.
Then she glanced at Xavier. “Thanks. You can go now.”
Seeing that she wanted to kick him out as soon as they were back in the room, Xavier gave her a half–smile and then told the manager to leave.
Then, Xavier said, “You could at least help me save some face in front of outsiders.”
Aveline said coldly, “You care about face?”
“Why wouldn’t I care about face?”
Aveline let out a dry laugh and said nothing.
if he really cared about face, would he cheat on his wife with her own half–sister?
Xavier looked at her mocking smile. “If you have something to say, just say it. That laugh is creeping me out.”

Aveline ignored him.

Xavier guessed she was definitely thinking something nasty. He stared at her with his dark, deep eyes. “Do you know you’re giving me the silent treatment?
This is a form of domestic abuse, you know.”
Aveline found it incredibly ironic and scoffed, “So you do know what the silent treatment is?
Xavier was at a loss for words.
After a moment, he sighed inwardly and reached out to take her other hand. “Aveline, I was wrong. Please forgive me, okay?”
“Besides, I was only a little cold to you before, I never gave you the silent treatment.
But it was still wrong. I admit it. I’ll never be like that again.”
“I’ll be good…”
Aveline coldly shook his hand off, cutting him off. “Don’t try to get handsy with me while I’m injured.”
“Don’t say things you don’t even believe yourself.”
Xavier let go of her hand, looked at her quietly for a moment, and asked, “You must be hungry, right?
What do you want to eat? I’ll have Amy bring something over.”
Aveline cursed her bad luck internally. Jasmine and Julian weren’t around, and of all times, she had to get injured now.
She said coldly, “You can go. Isn’t the service at the Beltran Hotel supposed to be great? If I need anything, I’ll call room service.”
Xavier glanced at her, took out his phone, and called Amy, telling her what food to bring over.
Aveline overheard and realized he had ordered a lot, enough for several people, including some of
her favorites.
“Xavier, I told you to leave.”
Xavier said lightly, “What’s the rush? We’ll talk after you’ve had breakfast.”

Then he got up, went to the closet, and took out a men’s bathrobe.

Aveline knew what he was about to do the moment she saw it, but she instinctively asked, “What are you doing?”
“I’m going to take a shower first.”
“Go back to your own room to shower.”
“Too much trouble. I’ll just shower here.”
With that, he walked into the bathroom.
Aveline let out a heavy, annoyed sigh.
She wanted to grab her phone, but Xavier had placed it too far away. She’d have to move her foot to get it, so she gave up.
She moved the ice pack away and glanced at her ankle. It was already starting to swell. It looked like she’d have to rest in the room for a few days.
But she could also ask the hotel to send up a wheelchair. A luxury hotel like the Beltran Hotel should have an electric one.
Xavier came out of the bathroom wearing the bathrobe, the belt tied loosely, revealing half of his firm chest.
He walked up to her. “Is it any better? Move the ice pack, let me see.”
Aveline coldly turned her face away, ignoring him.
Just then, the doorbell rang. Xavier went to open the door and pushed a cart inside. It was the
breakfast he had ordered.

When is the novel ending? It’s so unnecessarily long… not a single intimacy or connection just fighting and bickering from the beginning to end...
