Aveline was too angry to speak.
Xavier turned over to hug her, and Aveline said coldly, “I still have one good foot. Don’t make me kick you.”
Xavier said gently, “Baby, I haven’t held you in so long.”
“Just a hug. Your foot is injured, I can’t do anything anyway.”
“Xavier…”
“Fine, no hugging then. Lie down and sleep.”
With that, Xavier lay straight and didn’t touch her anymore.
Aveline shifted her body to get out of bed and go to the restroom. Xavier opened his eyes and looked at her. Knowing what she wanted to do, he said nothing, rolled out of bed, and turned on the light.
Then, without a word, he reached out with both hands to carry her.
Aveline also said nothing, letting him carry her into the restroom and place her next to the toilet.
At this point, Aveline had to speak up. “Get out.”
Xavier glanced at her, smiled without speaking, and went out, but he didn’t close the door.
“Close the door.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t look.”
Aveline knew she couldn’t get rid of him. She glanced at the doorway and didn’t see Xavier’s figure, guessing he had moved to the side, so she sat down on the toilet, relieved.
Afterwards, when he heard the toilet flush, Xavier came in, helped her move to the sink, waited for her to wash her hands, and carried her back to bed.
The two of them lay down to sleep. The room was dark and quiet.
Aveline closed her eyes, smelling the familiar male scent, her feelings complicated.

The man she once adored was lying next to her, but her heart had already decided to part ways with him.
Aveline sighed to herself and gradually fell asleep.
Xavier couldn’t sleep. He wanted to touch her, kiss her, and hold her, but he was afraid she’d get angry and really kick him with her uninjured foot.
It wasn’t that he was afraid of being kicked, but that he was afraid her injury would start hurting
again.
Finally, when he felt Aveline’s breathing become soft and even, she must have been asleep. He turned over and, by the moonlight coming in through the window, gazed at her sleeping face.
In the dim light, she looked soft and serene.
Xavier watched her like this for a long time. Thinking she must be sound asleep, he propped himself up, leaned over, and gently kissed her cheek.
He glanced at her, then kissed her again.
Satisfied, Xavier lay back down, closed his eyes, and went to sleep.
Waking up the next morning, Aveline felt a broad body pressed against her back, an arm resting on her waist.
She grabbed the arm and threw it aside.
Xavier woke up instantly, his voice raspy. “That’s a unique way to wake someone up.”
Aveline said nothing, propping herself up with her hands.
Xavier quickly sat up and looked at her. “Getting up already?
Why are you up so early? You don’t have to work. Sleep in a little.”
Aveline ignored him, shifting her body to get out of bed.
“You need to use the restroom.”
Xavier said, quickly getting out of bed, and then carried her.
Aveline let him carry her into the restroom. After she was done, he carried her out, and she said,
“Take me to the sofa.”
Xavier chuckled, “Yes, my lady.”

He set Aveline down on the couch, then turned to pour her a glass of water and handed it to her.
He knew Aveline always drank a glass of water after waking up, and since they started living together, she would hand him one every morning too.
Aveline took it and drank, then looked up at him. “Xavier, you’d make a pretty competent caregiver.”
Xavier: ”
“Aveline. I’m only competent when it comes to taking care of you. Anyone else can forget it.”
Aveline scoffed but didn’t say anything, placing the glass on the coffee table.
Xavier sat down beside her, lifted her left foot, and checked the injury.
“The swelling’s gone down a bit. It’ll be fine after a few days of rest.”
After speaking, Xavier looked at Aveline. “You’re not thinking of going to Kralville on Saturday for Crestmark’s Blossom Gala, are you?”
“Let me tell you, you can’t travel far even in a week.”
Aveline said flatly, “Whether I travel or not is none of your business.”
“Order some breakfast.”
Xavier saw her bossing him around without any hesitation, chuckled, and picked up his phone to have Amy bring them some food.

When is the novel ending? It’s so unnecessarily long… not a single intimacy or connection just fighting and bickering from the beginning to end...
