Chapter 514
Xavier laughed. “Are you taking this chance to extort me?”
“The fee I’m paying you is based on Bernard’s standard. That’s not out of respect for Bernard, it’s because you’re my wife.”
“Besides, you’re working on one of our own projects. You’ll have equity in it later. If it does well, you benefit too, right?”
A sarcastic smile touched Aveline’s lips. “That’s right. I’m supposed to get half your fortune later anyway.”
When Xavier heard her bring up divorce again, he was speechless.
She was really going to be the death of him.
With Jasmine and Julian there, Xavier didn’t want to argue with her and make a fool of himself, so he just looked down at his plate and ate.
Jasmine and Julian exchanged a look. She smirked, clearly finding it hilarious that Aveline had shut Xavier down.
Julian remained expressionless, giving no reaction.
Meanwhile, Josephine and Gerald had been waiting in a private dining room at the Southern River–style Cuisine restaurant for almost half an hour. They were both scowling by the time Ryan finally arrived.
Ryan apologized the moment he entered, “Sorry, I had a lot to do at work, so I left late, and then I hit traffic. That’s why I’m late.”
Josephine knew Xavier had gone to Mount Ardwood today and wasn’t at the office, so Ryan should have been able to get off work on time.
He was late on purpose, just to put her in her place from the get–go.
Gerald, however, didn’t know Xavier wasn’t at the office and asked, “You came here without telling Mr. Beltran?”
Ryan shot back, “Well, would Mr. Henderson prefer that I told Mr. Beltran?”

Gerald frowned slightly. “If you haven’t, then don’t. It’s not necessary.
Ryan let out a dry laugh, silently mocking Gerald for his pretense.

Josephine picked up the teapot and personally poured Ryan some tea. “Kevin, have some tea.”
Ryan feigned surprise. “Oh, Ms. Sutton, I can do it myself, really. How could I trouble you to pour tea for me?”
Josephine smiled. “It’s nothing to be embarrassed about. I’m more than happy to pour tea for you, Kevin.”
But inside, she was fuming, knowing Ryan was holding up her film’s investment funds just so she would suck up to him.
Ryan was amused internally, but out loud he said, “Thank you, Ms. Sutton. Thank you so much.
He simply watched as Josephine poured him a cup of tea, then picked it up and took a sip.
After taking a sip, he made a point to add, “Tea poured by Ms. Sutton just tastes better.”
Gerald, who was already annoyed that Ryan let Josephine pour his tea, got even angrier when he
heard that.
“Being a special assistant really makes you different, huh.”
Ryan quickly set down his cup, adopting a humble posture. “It’s only because Mr. Beltran has given me this chance. I still have a lot to work on.”

Gerald snorted and said no more, because Josephine had secretly nudged him, signaling him not to get on Ryan’s bad side.
Then Josephine called for the waiter to bring out the food.
Afterward, she personally poured wine for Ryan, and he put on a show of being overwhelmingly flattered
Gerald held back his anger, deciding that if Ryan really dared to take advantage of Josephine, he would report him to Xavier.
After eating for a while, Josephine asked, “Kevin, Xav told me you’re in charge of the movie’s investment. Can you please tell me what the problem is? I’ll definitely fix it.”
As she said this, she picked up the serving utensils and put some food on Ryan’s plate.
Picking at the food Josephine had put on his plate, Ryan said, “The main issue is that the funds

weren’t used according to the contract, and some expenses are unclear. Steven, haven’t I already told your finance department this?”
Josephine replied. “But… Mr. Beltran said before that our film crew could spend freely, and that if a billion wasn’t enough, we could ask for more.”
Ryan nodded. “That’s right. Mr. Beltran did mean the crew could spend freely, but you can’t just ignore the contract when it comes to payments. And the reports are unclear about where the money was spent.”
“The Beltran Group isn’t some small company, it’s a huge corporation. The books can’t be a mess, right, Mr. Henderson?”
Gerald looked at Ryan with a somber face, at a loss for words.
He was a lawyer; he couldn’t very well say Ryan was wrong.

When is the novel ending? It’s so unnecessarily long… not a single intimacy or connection just fighting and bickering from the beginning to end...
