Xavier sighed helplessly, thinking he had to take things slow. He figured that using Josephine to test her had hurt her too deeply.

He reached out to touch her cold face, but Aveline, her expression grim, pushed his hand away. He chuckled and stood up. “Alright, alright, I won’t bother you.”

As he spoke, he took out his phone to look. It was a call from Ryan that he had just missed.

“It’s Ryan.”

Saying that, Xavier called him back.

Aveline watched him and said coldly, “Get out.”

Xavier glanced at her, said nothing, and turned to walk out of the room.

Ryan answered, “Mr. Beltran.”

Xavier walked toward his own room and asked, “What is it?”

“I just left the restaurant, Mr. Beltran. You’ll never guess why Ms. Sutton invited me to dinner.”

Xavier opened the door to his room and said flatly, “It was for her movie, wasn’t it?”

Ryan told Xavier how Josephine had tried to bribe him.

Xavier’s dark eyes narrowed. “Gerald was there and just watched her pull out a box of gold bars for you?”

Ryan replied, “Mr. Henderson said he was going to the restroom. Ms. Sutton only tried to bribe me after he left.”

Xavier let out a cold laugh. “I low impressive. Using my money to bribe my special assistant.”

Hearing Mr. Beltran’s sudden self–mockery, Ryan was momentarily at a loss for words.

Xavier sat on the sofa, phone in one hand, the other resting on the armrest, his handsome face cold. “Gerald must have known, right?”

“The truth.”

Ryan had no choice but to state his gut feeling. “I think he probably knew.”

Xavier said coldly, “Get Josephine replaced immediately.”

“Yes, Mr. Beltran. The producer and I are already working on it.

But it’s a bit tricky with the other actors. We’ll have to persuade them carefully.”

Xavier said flatly, “Do they want to star in a flop?

They should be happy to get a better script.”

“Mr. Beltran, I’ll do my best to handle it.”

After hanging up, Xavier called Gerald.

Gerald was driving Josephine home when he saw a call from Xavier. He quickly said to Josephine:

“It’s Xavier.”

Josephine was startled and turned to look at him. “He didn’t tell Xav, did he?”

She instantly regretted bribing Ryan.

Who would’ve guessed Ryan was so principled, nothing like Claude.

Gerald comforted her, “Don’t worry. If he really told Xavier, I’ll tell him it was my idea.”

Josephine looked touched, “Gerald, I…”

“I need to take this call.”

With that, Gerald answered Xavier’s call. “Hello.”

Xavier said flatly, “Josephine gave my assistant a box of gold bars. What does that mean?”

“To shame me for paying my employees too little?”

Hearing this, Gerald couldn’t help but glance at Josephine.

Gerald looked at his phone, frowning as he thought about what Xavier had said.

Josephine asked him. “What did Xav tell you? Did his assistant really say bad things about me?”

Gerald asked her. “Did you give Ryan a box of gold bars?”

“Did Ryan tell Xav I gave him a box of gold bars?”

“I didn’t. I just asked him what it would take for him to transfer the money.”

“Gerald. I told you, if he really asked for a kickback, I might give him a little, as long as it’s not too much. If it was a lot. I’d definitely report it to Xav. I’d never let him extort me.”

“As it turned out, Ryan asked for way too much. I didn’t agree, and he left.”

“So I suspect Aveline bought him off to deliberately give me a hard time.
