John looked smug hearing Josephine get complimented on her looks, like he’d stolen something from Xavier and was proud of it.

John then gave a nod to the others.

He then glanced at Josephine but didn’t say hello.

Xavier remained seated and just said coolly, “Mr. Vance.”

That counted as a greeting.

He also just gave Josephine a cold glance.

John thought Xavier was unhappy that Josephine was with him and said with a smile, “Mr. Beltran, how could you have forgotten Ms. Sutton?”

Xavier swirled the drink in his glass. He couldn’t just make a scene in front of everyone, so he said with a half–smile:

“How could I forget? Director Sutton not only directed the ad for the’s commercial plaza, but the first movie the invested in was also directed by her. It’s just a shame filming is on hold.”

“Director Sutton, when will filming resume?”

Josephine froze, not expecting Xavier to be so ruthless.

How was she supposed to answer that? Was she supposed to say he stopped the funding, so the movie couldn’t continue?

Her mother was wrong. Xavier was definitely pulling his investment; the movie was dead.

Once Xavier left, no one went out of their way to talk to Josephine, but they were still polite enough to John, making small talk.
