After breakfast, they grabbed their luggage. Aveline and Fiona rode in Sebastian’s car, with Xavier’s car following behind them on the way to the airport.
During the drive, Fiona had a chance to go online and saw that word had already spread about Aveline humiliating Josephine in the Crestmark Hotel lobby the night before.
Fiona quickly said to Aveline, “Now everyone knows Josephine’s mom is the other woman, that she’s Jacob’s illegitimate daughter, and you even questioned if she’s really Jacob’s.”
Aveline smiled faintly, “She brought it on herself. If she hadn’t come looking for trouble, I wouldn’t have embarrassed her on purpose.”
Fiona said, “It’s true that nice people get taken advantage of, but Josephine and Courtney should
have known that even a cornered rabbit will bite.”
Just then, Aveline’s phone rang. She glanced at it and saw it was her grandmother calling.
She let out a dry laugh, “I wonder who’s using my grandmother’s phone to curse me out.
“Of course, it’s also possible my grandmother wants to curse me out herself.”

Fiona said, “If it’s your dad, that would be so ironic. If I were him, I’d be rushing to get a paternity test with Josephine.”
“And that baby in Courtney’s belly, who knows if it’s his either.”
Fiona was just talking trash. She didn’t actually think that, believing Jacob wasn’t stupid enough to raise another man’s child.
But Aveline was thinking that Jacob had fertility issues. That’s why her mother had trouble getting pregnant again after having her. The doctor said it was Jacob’s issue. She did get pregnant one other time, but couldn’t carry the baby to term, and the doctor said that was also Jacob’s fault.
So if Jacob wasn’t an idiot, he should have gotten a paternity test.
Unless he really trusted Courtney completely, or was madly in love with her.
But could a heartless bastard like Jacob really love someone?
Hmph, as if.

Aveline rejected the call. A moment later, it rang again, so she just silenced her phone.
She couldn’t turn it off, in case her maternal grandparents called her.

In the ear behind them, Xavier first received a call from Ryan. “Mr. Beltran, there are rumors online that Aveline cursed out Steven in the lobby of the Crestmark hotel last night.”
Xavier wasn’t surprised at all. “If there’s nothing that could harm Aveline, just ignore it. Let them talk.”
It wouldn’t hurt Aveline anyway.
Not long after he hung up with Ryan, Leona called. Xavier figured she was calling about Josephine, so he rejected it.
After that, Gerald called too, and he rejected that call as well.
A little while later, Rupert called. Xavier had to answer this one. “Hello, are you calling about what’s on the internet?”
Rupert said, “How did it get to this point? Aveline even said Josephine isn’t Jacob’s biological daughter and brought up some paternity test?”
“You were there. Why did you let the two sisters fight like that?”
Xavier said calmly, “Josephine went looking for trouble with Aveline and got humiliated. Didn’t she bring that on herself? How was I supposed to stop it?”
Rupert was silent for a moment, then said, “With a mother like that, you can’t expect her to raise a good daughter.”
“But was that just Aveline talking out of anger, or is Josephine really not Jacob’s daughter?”
Xavier replied, “It was probably just said in anger. Jacob wouldn’t be stupid enough to be tricked by Courtney into raising another man’s child, would he?”
Rupert said, “I heard from your mother that Aveline also said she disowns Jacob as her father. Once that gets back to Jacob, there’s going to be more trouble.”
Xavier said flatly, “If he doesn’t want to acknowledge her, so be it. Aveline has her maternal grandparents, and she has me. She doesn’t need a father like Jacob.”
Rupert scoffed, “That’s easy for you to say. What will you do if it turns out Aveline wasn’t the one who saved you?”
Xavier frowned slightly. “Grandpa, you still think it wasn’t Aveline who saved me?”

Rupert replied. “Of course, I’d prefer to believe Aveline saved you, but aren’t there still some unanswered questions?”
“Ive lived long enough to know that things in this world are unpredictable. Some truths are a complete mystery without solid evidence right in front of you. Let’s just wait for the investigation results.”
Xavier said coldly, “Grandpa, I’ve told you before, even if Aveline lied to me, I won’t divorce her.

When is the novel ending? It’s so unnecessarily long… not a single intimacy or connection just fighting and bickering from the beginning to end...
