Xavier felt helpless and decided to explain later. He changed the subject, “You can’t do any strenuous exercise today, so why don’t you teach Valentina how to play tennis?”
Aveline didn’t say anything, so Xavier deliberately asked Valentina, “Valentina, do you want your auntie to teach you how to play tennis?”
Valentina immediately answered, “I do.”
Aveline frowned slightly, glancing at Valentina. “She’s still young. Let her learn in two or three years.”
Xavier smiled and said, “We’re just playing around. I just want her to get a feel for what tennis is.”
Aveline said coolly, “Oh, so you just want to play around.”
“Valentina, your uncle wants to play. You go play with him.”
Valentina was completely baffled.
Brielle sat on Aveline’s other side, listening to the couple’s conversation, and secretly shook her head, thinking they were such a quarrelsome pair.
And her daughter was innocently caught in the middle.
Valentina wasn’t happy. “But I want Auntie to play with me.”
Brielle wanted to say something, but Xavier gave her a look, telling her not to get involved.
Aveline looked at Valentina, not noticing Xavier’s gesture, and said to her, “Auntie isn’t feeling well today, so I can’t teach you tennis. There’s a kids‘ play area here. Want to go play there?”
Valentina nodded. “Okay, but I want Auntie to play with me.”
Aveline sighed. “Fine, let’s go.”
As she spoke, she stood up and held out her hand to Valentina.
Valentina quickly got off Xavier’s lap and reached out to take Aveline’s hand.

After a few steps. Aveline noticed. She stopped and turned around, saying coldly, “Don’t follow
us.”
Xavier smiled. “Valentina would be even happier if her uncle and aunt played with her together, right, Valentina?”
Valentina opened her mouth to speak, but Aveline cut in, “Why don’t you play with her.
Hearing this. Valentina realized her aunt didn’t want her uncle to come along, so she quickly said, “Uncle, don’t follow us.”
Seeing that the little one only wanted her aunt and not him, her uncle, Xavier sighed, “Alright, listen to your aunt.‘
Valentina muttered, “I always listen to my aunt anyway.”
Aveline walked away holding Valentina’s hand. Xavier watched them go, then turned and sat back down next to Brielle.
Brielle looked at him with a smile. “Aveline wouldn’t let you follow?”
Xavier gave a wry smile. “The big one wouldn’t let me, and the little one listens to the big one, so she wouldn’t either.”
Brielle remarked, “Valentina really likes Aveline.”
Hearing that, Xavier looked down, deep in thought. He thought that if he and Aveline had kids someday, she would be a great mom, and the kids would definitely like her more than him.
At this thought, Xavier smiled. He figured he’d have to work harder in the future to make his kids like him too.
On the other side, Jane had been watching the interaction between Xavier and Aveline. She leaned closer to Leona and asked again in a low voice, “Leona, why does Brielle’s child call Aveline ‘Aunt“?”
“She calls Xavier ‘Uncle‘ and Aveline ‘Aunt‘. Doesn’t that mean Xavier and Aveline are married?”
“But that can’t be, Xavier isn’t married.”
“Could it be that they haven’t made it public?”
“But why not make it public?”

“No, that’s not right.”
Leona gave a half–smile. “If you want to know, go ask Xavier.”

Jane said awkwardly, “I don’t know Xav well, and I’m kind of scared of him. I wouldn’t dare ask.”
Leona said, “Then ask Aveline. Didn’t I just introduce you two?”
Jane gave a dry laugh. “She seems pretty hard to get along with.”
Leona snorted. “Isn’t that the truth. And her character is terrible.”
Jane asked tentatively, “Leona, do you have some kind of beef with her?”
Leona replied, “No beef. I just don’t like her.”
Leona knew Jane was very curious why Valentina called Aveline ‘Aunt‘. Hmph, since Aveline wasn’t making it public, she wasn’t going to do it for her.
Aveline had better keep it a secret for her whole life. She can keep up her act until she dies.
She took out her phone. “Didn’t you want to meet Josephine? I’ll call her over.
Jane’s eyes flickered. She thought if Josephine showed up, there would be some drama between
the half–sisters.
“Sure, Leona, have her come over.
“Since you like Josephine, Leona, I think I could be friends with her.”

When is the novel ending? It’s so unnecessarily long… not a single intimacy or connection just fighting and bickering from the beginning to end...
