Aveline looked at him icily. “Jacob, was it Courtney’s idea for you to come ask me for money?”

Aveline shot back, “I don’t know if your loan is real or fake, but if you’re in trouble, why didn’t you just ask Courtney and Josephine for help? You went to all the trouble of using Grandma’s phone to contact me. What, does Courtney only know how to spend your money and not care if you live or die?”

“She’s your wife now, so she has to share your debts. As your daughter, I’m not responsible for them.”
