**A Divorce 743**
**Chapter 743**
He attempted to call her again, but Aveline swiftly dismissed the incoming call before it could even ring.
Frustrated but undeterred, he resorted to sending her a text. “Why’d you hang up so fast? You didn’t even get a chance to yell at me,” he typed, a hint of playful sarcasm lacing his words.
Aveline, feeling a mix of irritation and amusement, quickly responded, “I’ll have Helena head to Mount Ardwood first thing tomorrow morning to tidy up the two villas. Just give her the keys or tell her the code.”
As she typed, memories flooded her mind. She recalled how she had transferred ownership of one of the villas to her maternal grandparents, a decision that felt both right and necessary. They had even gone so far as to install a safe in the basement, a precaution that made her feel secure. She replied to Xavier, “Your family can only stay in one of them. The villa I transferred to my maternal grandparents is strictly for my family.”
Xavier’s fingers hovered over the screen as he read her message. “What’s this about ‘your family’ and ‘my family’?” he shot back, a mix of confusion and frustration evident in his tone.
“Fine, whatever you say,” Aveline replied, her tone clipped, but she could feel the tension simmering beneath the surface.
Xavier wanted to voice his concern about where he was supposed to stay, but he quickly dismissed the thought. Deep down, he was certain she wouldn’t allow him to stay with her, so he opted for silence. Once he arrived at Mount Ardwood, he decided he would simply find a way to coexist quietly in her space.
There were so many things he wanted to discuss with her, particularly about her potential return to Entora, but he decided it would be best to save those conversations for their meeting the next day. Instead, he sent her a simple text, “Good night, baby,” hoping it would soften the edges of their earlier exchange.
After sending the message, he called for Amy to come in.
“What is it?” she asked, her brow furrowing slightly as she stepped into the room.
“Michelle used to be a surgeon at the children’s hospital,” Amy informed him, her voice steady. “She was the lead surgeon for Jason’s appendectomy when he was a child.”
Xavier’s eyes widened as he absorbed the information. “Are you saying my uncle’s family knows Michelle?” he questioned, a mix of surprise and curiosity dancing in his voice.
Amy nodded with certainty. “They definitely know her. But whether they stayed in touch after the surgery, that I can’t say for sure.”
Xavier began to tap the armrest of the sofa absentmindedly, lost in contemplation. “For a simple pediatric surgeon to rise to the position of director at North City General Hospital… that’s no small feat. Do you think someone helped her along the way?”
Amy sensed the implication in his words, recognizing that he was hinting at Jonathan possibly being Michelle’s benefactor.
“Mr. Beltran, I thought the same thing, which is why I’ve already initiated an investigation,” she replied, her tone professional.
“Mr. Beltran, Michelle is currently in Entora. She’s having dinner at Granvia Restaurant tonight. Our team is keeping tabs on her to see who she meets,” Amy added, her expression serious.
Xavier nodded, acknowledging her thoroughness and the information she provided.
After Amy left, he stepped out of the study, his mind swirling with thoughts. As he passed through the living room, he noticed Lauren sitting alone, engrossed in a television show. He decided to join her.
“Is everything settled with Collin and Paulina? What time are we leaving tomorrow?” she inquired without taking her eyes off the screen.
Xavier took a deep breath, the weight of the revelation heavy on his mind. “Because I happened to hear that Michelle from North City General Hospital used to be a pediatrician at the children’s hospital. She’s the one who removed Jason’s appendix.”
Lauren’s eyes widened in surprise. “Oh, really? How come I never heard your aunt and uncle mention it?”
“Our family has visited North City General Hospital several times over the years, and we never heard them say anything about it,” he replied, a hint of disappointment in his tone.
Xavier allowed a faint smile to escape his lips. “Yeah, we never heard them mention it.”
At that moment, his phone buzzed, pulling him back to the present. It was a text from Amy. [Michelle just went to the Velvet Club.]
He quickly typed back, [With who?]
Amy responded with a list of names. As he scanned the message, he noticed that some of Entora’s elite were included among them.
A moment of contemplation passed before he sent a quick text to Gerald: [Where are you?]
Gerald replied almost instantly, [A bar. What do you want?]
[Mr. Beltran texting me. How rare.]
Xavier smirked at the exchange. [The Velvet Club? I’m on my way.]

When is the novel ending? It’s so unnecessarily long… not a single intimacy or connection just fighting and bickering from the beginning to end...
