**A Divorce 791**
**Chapter 791**
Xavier reclined in his chair, arms crossed tightly over his chest, a sardonic smile playing on his lips as he absorbed the troubling news. “That donation… Jonathan must have been involved in the cover-up,” he declared, his voice laced with skepticism, each word punctuated by a sense of betrayal.
“You’re right,” Amy replied, her tone unwavering and calm. “You weren’t in a position of authority back then, so you wouldn’t have had the insight.”
A sudden wave of realization washed over Xavier, illuminating the dark corners of his mind. The timeline clicked into place—this scandal had unfolded during his father’s serious illness. It was as if the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle had finally found their rightful places: Jonathan’s family, or perhaps just his conniving Aunt, had wielded their influence over Michelle when she was most vulnerable. Given Michelle’s prior entanglements with corruption, it was hardly surprising that she would acquiesce to their demands.
Xavier’s voice turned steely, a chill creeping into his words. “Are those thugs who kidnapped me somehow connected to Jonathan’s family?”
Amy shook her head slowly, her expression somber. “As of now, we haven’t found any links. Barry tried to reach out to those men in prison, but they were uncooperative. Honestly, Barry should have clued Rupert into this situation ages ago.”
A flicker of anger ignited in Xavier’s eyes. “They’d better not be tied to those criminals. If they are, this so-called family bond is as good as severed.”
Meanwhile, in the living room below, Rupert was deeply engrossed in a conversation with Collin and Paulina. When he mentioned the names Marcus and Josephine, the shock was palpable, their expressions morphing into disbelief.
They had never imagined that Josephine would entangle herself with Leona’s husband, Marcus.
Collin and Paulina exchanged anxious glances, both grappling with the unsettling implications of the rumored connection between Xavier and Josephine.
Rupert, a man seasoned in the intricate dance of power and manipulation, had long suspected that Collin and Paulina were misreading the dynamics between Xavier and Josephine. Their misunderstanding was likely why they were so fervently supporting Aveline’s decision to pursue a divorce.
He let out an exaggerated sigh, deliberately drawing their attention. “Jacob’s illegitimate daughter is truly a master manipulator. She’s stirred up a whirlwind of chaos, leading Aveline to misinterpret Xavier’s intentions,” he remarked, disdain dripping from his voice.
“But Xavier has always been devoted to Aveline. He never paid Josephine any mind—he even had her removed from the film cast not long ago. Who would have thought she’d redirect her devious plans toward Marcus?”
At that moment, Aveline descended the staircase, her ears catching Rupert’s words. She recognized his attempt to portray Xavier in a favorable light, hoping to sway her grandparents’ opinions and dissuade her from following through with the divorce.
Aveline bit her lip, her resolve solidifying as she continued her descent.
As she entered the room, a hush fell over the three elders, their prior conversation abruptly ceasing.
Rupert broke the silence, his voice laced with concern. “Where’s Xavier? Is he still asleep?”
“Good morning, Patriarch,” Aveline greeted, her voice steady and measured, artfully sidestepping his question.
Rupert sensed her evasion and sighed internally but pressed on. “Your father and Josephine are at it again. They’re next door, arguing and demanding four or five hundred million in compensation.”
Collin and Paulina gasped in disbelief. “What?”
Aveline, however, remained unfazed. Given Jacob’s overwhelming debts, it was hardly surprising that he would make such outrageous demands. Two hundred million in debt, and yet he was seeking four or five hundred million? It was evident he was attempting to profit from a situation that should have been about settling debts.

When is the novel ending? It’s so unnecessarily long… not a single intimacy or connection just fighting and bickering from the beginning to end...
